Things To Do
  1. Work on articles that need cleanup.
  2. Create a page for every university and college and add {{infobox University}} for it. See the missing list for those institutions still awaiting articles.
  3. Place {{WikiProject Higher education}} on every related talk page.
  4. Combat boosterism wherever it appears
  5. Ensure all articles, including Featured articles, are consistent with the article guidelines.

This Collaboration of the Month (COTM) by WikiProject Universities is a collaborative effort to improve higher education articles on Wikipedia. The collaboration project was originally established as a Collaboration of the Fortnight by Jameson L. Tai in November 2007. The project was briefly revived in November 2008 as a Collaboration of the Month and returned in November 2009 with a new moderator. Contact Mabeenot with any questions.

How to help

[edit]
We're looking for editors to help upgrade B-Class articles to GA-Class and Start-Class articles to B-Class
  • You can contribute by:
  1. Increasing coverage and accuracy
  2. Adding supporting materials
  3. Improving references and citations
  4. Refining the article's structure and organization
  5. Copyediting grammar, punctuation, and spelling
  6. Improving the quality and clarity of the writing
  7. Establishing and maintaining the article's neutral point-of-view
  8. Providing well-rounded coverage of the subject
  9. See GA/FA requirements for more details
  • General guidelines
  1. Help verify/supply new sources
  2. If the article lacks a universities infobox, create one
  3. Update figures. (Enrollment figures and number of awards fluctuate every semester/year. It drastically affects the accuracy of this encyclopedia to make sure the data displayed in the article is up-to-date.)
  4. Check to see if the article is following the suggested WikiProject Universities article structure breakdown
  5. Make sure the article is NOT an advertisement. The last thing we need is a misplaced online university trying to solicit to students through our services. If it is written like an advertisement, fix it. If you cannot, notify us on the appropriate subject header on this talk page.
  6. Remove any instances of academic boosterism.
  7. Be Bold
  • And most importantly...
  1. Have fun!

Article Selection

[edit]

Every month, two articles will be selected for this Collaboration project to improve, one B-class and one Start-class. The selection process shall be as follows:

Each calendar month, a list of ten (10) B-class articles will be chosen by the moderator out of Category:B-Class Universities articles, upon which editors will then vote. Topics that receive three (3) votes but are not selected as the People's Choice Collaboration of the Month will automatically be retained for the next month's vote. Topics that fail to receive any votes will automatically be eliminated. All other topics will be retained or eliminated at the moderator's discretion.

A Start-class article will be selected my the moderator from Category:Start-Class Universities articles to act as the Head Start topic, an alternative for editors who feel more comfortable working on a less-advanced article. While the moderator retains control over the selection of Head Start articles, anyone may suggest an article by writing on the moderator's talk page.

A designated moderator, currently Mabeenot, will be assigned to operate the COTM. Moderator assignments will be fixed until a need arises for changing the moderator.

Nominations

[edit]

To vote, you have to be a registered user. Anyone who votes is encouraged (but not required) to make at least one edit to the current COTM. Please do not add nominations that were not selected by the moderator.

Sign with "# ~~~~" on the end of the list of the article you want to vote for and then update the vote count in the subhead. Opposing votes are not counted (see approval voting). You can vote for as many articles as you like. Additionally you can give a comment in the comment section, but remember that every editor that has ever edited a nominated article did so to the best of his of her ability.

How the COTM is selected

[edit]

The article with the most votes at the end of each month will be selected as the following month's People's Choice COTM topic. If two articles have the same number of votes, the older article (judged by earliest edit in article history) wins.

Please add your signature below the college you wish to vote for and manually change the number of votes for that college. Colleges with more than 3 votes may be renominated for the next month.

Nomination Instructions

[edit]
Instructions for moderator for article selection.

The moderator is to select ten (10) articles from Category:B-Class Universities articles. While the selections are ultimately up to the moderator's discretion, the moderator will keep in mind that geographic diversity brings together editors from distant places in a common pursuit. To ensure fairness and objectivity, the following types of articles cannot be nominated.
