Walter Edmund Wilmshurst Hurst[1] CBE (1912–1987) [2] was Dean of Wellington from 1963 to 1977.[3]

Hurst was educated at Trinity College, Dublin and ordained in 1936. After curacies at Drumachose and Lower Hutt he was a Chaplain to the New Zealand Armed Forces during World War Two. When peace returned he held incumbencies at Waiwhetū, Stratford and New Plymouth before his time as Dean.[4]

In the 1976 Birthday Honours, he was appointed Companion of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) for "services to the community".[5]
