On the Third Tier, Vietnam is divided into 1,581 wards, 603 townships and 8,978 communes.[1] Ward (phường), together with Township (thị trấn) and Commune () have an equal status under the Third Tier units.

The wards are subordinate to Urban District, Provincial City or Town as the Third Tier unit.

Fact[edit]

Currently, for management the urban areas and associating families, each ward is divided into neighborhoods (Vietnamese: khu phố), the neighborhoods is the organization of population.

Ho Chi Minh City has 259 wards and Hanoi has 147 wards.[2]
