Washington High School is a 9-12 High School in Charles Town, West Virginia, USA. The population growth in the county required a "de-consolidation" in 2007, as the single county high school, formerly known as Jefferson County High School, established in 1973 was renamed simply Jefferson High School, and the county split into two zones, with the eastern half of the county attending the new Washington High School.
Performing/Visual Arts
Marching Band
The marching band usually consists of 90-120 members, and has a season that lasts from July to late October/early November. The band directors focus on the technique and performance of a marching band while traveling the local area, performing at football games and the occasional marching competition.
Concert Band
The concert band begins in early November, after marching band ends its rigorous schedule.
Wind Ensemble
This is an auditioned small group that begins during the end of marching band season. The group plays mostly grade 6 music and frequently records for the annual state festival. The group is conducted by Donald Shownen.
Jazz Ensemble
The jazz ensemble, led by The Champ, Donald Shownen (Donnie), has had overall success since the school opened, as evidenced by frequent Superior and Excellent ratings at jazz festivals.
