Welcome to the community bulletin board, which is a page used for announcements from WikiProjects and other groups. Included here are coordinated efforts, events, projects, and other general announcements.
Yearly or aperiodic events
- WP:30 kB drive – Expand short vital articles to 30 kB, only in August 2022. Semi-automated tools (AWB) are encouraged, though adding content and references increase byte count the most.
- Wikipedia:WikiCup. The WikiCup is a championship that has taken place every year on Wikipedia since 2007. The Cup is played and won by skill of editing. The purpose of the Cup is to encourage content creation and improvement and make editing on Wikipedia more fun. There is a new round every month, until the current contest ends; below are the details.
- May 1 to June 28 – 32 contestants left.
- July 1 to August 29 – 16 contestants left.
- September 1 to October 31 – 8 finalists left, the contestant with the highest score will win!
Monthly or continuously ongoing events
- Monthly contest, WikiProject Military history. The contest department of the Military history WikiProject aims to motivate increased quality in military history articles by offering a form of friendly competition for project members making improvements to them. The primary contest available is a simple rolling competition that awards points for improving articles. The contest runs from the first to last day of each month.
- Guild of Copy Editors' editing blitz. The August 2022 editing blitz is a one-week long effort of the Guild of Copy Editors to reduce the backlog. This month's themes are: requests from May, June, and July 2022, and articles in the October and November 2021 backlogs.-->. It began 14 August 2022, 00:00 (UTC), and ends 20 August 2022, 23:59 (UTC).
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red July 2022 Events: Alphabet Run: A to B women's names (new); Women of the Baltic States (new); Women+Climate (year-long initiative); #1day1woman (continuing).
- The 100,000 Challenge. The quest to bring about 100,000 article improvements and creations globally through a series of 50,000/10,000/1000 Challenges for different regions and countries. This is a loose challenge, a list will not be maintained here, but the components will function independently on each of the subpages. Will be updated every week or two.
- The 50,000 Destubbing Challenge is a long term challenge to destub 50,000 articles on English Wikipedia for every country and topic. It may take decades to accomplish, it may take ten years, it all depends on how many people actively contribute.

- A group of editors has created a lichen task force under the banner of Wikipedia:WikiProject Fungi. Right now the group is busily tagging appropriate articles, converting existing articles to Wikipedia's automatic taxobox system, and creating an outline of lichens to direct future article development. - Wikipedia:WikiProject Unreferenced articles is urgently looking for volunteers to assist in the backlog of articles with no or insufficient citations. With over 142,000 articles, there is something for everyone. Recent changes
- The Persian (Farsi) Wikipedia community decided to block IP editing from October 2021 to April 2022. The Wikimedia Foundation's Product Analytics team tracked the impact of this change. An impact report is now available.
Changes later this week
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 16 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 17 August. It will be on all wikis from 18 August (calendar).
Some wikis will be in read-only for a few minutes because of a switch of their main database. It will be performed on 16 August at 07:00 UTC (targeted wikis) and on 18 August at 7:00 UTC (targeted wikis).
- The Realtime Preview will be available as a Beta Feature on wikis in Group 1. This feature was built in order to fulfill one of the Community Wishlist Survey proposals.

- The Beta Feature for DiscussionTools will be updated throughout August. Discussions will look different. You can see some of the proposed changes. [1][2][3]
