I am nominating this for featured list because I think it is complete and meets the criteria. It has had a peer review, at which several references were added and some formatting issues were corrected. Due to my current situation, I may be slower to respond than normal to comments, but I appreciate any that are made and will make every effort to address them through correction or rationale. This is a different style of list from many of my nominations in that it is not a table format; however, I feel that the current format does a better job of explaining the awards themselves as an appropriate lead article for the forthcoming topic, entitled "Awards in Major League Baseball". The criteria for inclusion of this list are determined by using the awards pages from the official Major League Baseball website, so there are some baseball awards, included those presented to Major League Baseball players, that are not included. These are the "official" awards; this topic will (hopefully) someday become a subtopic of a larger, overarching topic of all baseball awards. This is the first step. Have at it! Disclaimer: As the playoffs continue, some of the awards and recipients may change during the course of this nomination. Because the awards are presented at different times of the year and at different points throughout the offseason, it is difficult to find a time when any of the awards does not have a change forthcoming within a few weeks. Comments – This is only a partial review of the list, having made it through the Silver Slugger Award. Will try to review the rest later.
  • Commissioner's Trophy: "which was cancelled due to the players' strike." Change "the" to "a" since that isn't the only strike in baseball history.
  • I thought it was clear from the context that it's 1994, since the phrase is modifying the year 1994. KV5 (Talk • Phils) 21:09, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • In reference 7, Verducci actually wrote those words, not Torre himself. The Yankee Years is very unusual for an autobiography in that it isn't in the subject's voice.

  • The lead in its present form really feels like it is favoring Phillies players. I have no problem with listing their major awards, but it appears to be making an extra effort to include every Phillies winner; do we need the Gold Glove winners or Cliff Lee's Indians awards?   • Obviously. That statement may have been intended as fun/funny, but I'm sorry if I don't see it that way. I'm not trying to be biased, which is why I'm trying to give even coverage to all of the awards in the lead. If you'd rather see other information in the lead, please suggest it.   • While the last sentence of my comment was supposed to be light-hearted, the concern I have is completely serious. Most of the paragraph on the winners is devoted to Phillies winners, you have to admit. I'm reluctant to suggest expansion because the lead is well-balanced, but one possibility is to mention the most important winners (difficult because value judgements would come into play – not ideal for these purposes). Perhaps add the MVP and Cy Young holders not already mentioned and trim part of what's there to "three Phillies are current holders of Gold Glove Awards"?, and see how it looks afterward?   • Better balanced for sure. If you get a chance, take a look at the note I left regarding the second comment.   • One more thing on the lead: although I said that I thought the Phillies were over-represented before, don't be afraid to include something on them. It would give us something other than the Yankees and Red Sox in the lead; it would also be nice to have a National League team represented. Only something to think about, and not something I'd withhold support over.
  • LCS MVPs need updating. CC Sabathia and Ryan Howard are now the current holders.
  • Reference 8 should have the page number as p., not pp.
  • Reference 46 needs a publisher (Major League Baseball).
  • Reference 59 is from a book and should be formatted as such.
  • Reference 25 is to Encarta, which is not ideal since it is a fellow encyclopedia (a defunct one at that). Any alternatives possible? Giants2008 (27 and counting) 22:13, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the Phillies aren't a leader any more, and I haven't taken the time yet to figure out who is. LCS MVPs are updated with refs from the main article. Ref 8 fixed. Ref 46 published. Ref 59 is indeed from a book, but it is a compilation of articles originally published by the Associated Press. Wasn't sure exactly how to handle it. Weak support – The only reason I'm not offering a full support is that the 2009 award winners are in the process of being announced; questions about stability could result from this. Because there's no information available (that I could find, anyway) on when they were first presented under those names. I could put a "see also" to the lists of NL and AL pennant winners, which are separate from this list. They, however, are broken down by eras, and the more recent lists of winners are available by clicking through to the NLCS and ALCS, respectively, because that's where the list of pennant winners since 1969 live.
