Images not loading on Chrome

I am running Windows 7 64-bit and using Google Chrome. a lot of the time images on Wikipedia won't load, I have tried clearing the history but they still don't load. The specific problem is that the images load then disappear, I tried disabling all my extensions but this still occurs, it was fine until a day ago. - Champion (talk) (contribs) (Formerly TheChampionMan1234) 01:17, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

I was able to fix it by disabling the "use a prediction service to help load pages more quickly" option in the Chrome settings. I then downloaded and installed this extension [1] and added *.wikimedia.org to the options. - Champion (talk) (contribs) (Formerly TheChampionMan1234) 01:28, 12 September 2016 (UTC).

Email

Hi, the contacting by email is not working for my account despite having a yahoo email account registered, the editor I tried to email left a talkpage message saying emails had not arrived, also tested it by sending myself an email and that did not work either- please advise Atlantic306 (talk) 00:43, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

• Fruitmince, you should take the issue up with the editor involved, preferably in the talk page of the article. You've already queried the editor on his talk page. So await his response. Controlling levels displayed at user talk table of contents

Category:PageABC#TitleXYZ

For example: If in cases of big cities I have a pages called "[[Mayor of New York]]", but in other (smaller) towns I have "[[Durango#Mayor]]" sections ... I want a "Mayors" Category that lists as {"Durango","New York"}... so when the user clicks on "New York" they get taken to the FIRST page of "[[Mayor of New York]]" and when they click on "Durango" they get taken to the sub-section page of "[[Durango#Mayor]]" ... Is this possible? Maybe the only solution to split Durango#Mayor section into its own "sub" page?? A category can only display the actual full title of a page or redirect. Mayor of New York in a category will display "Mayor of New York". It cannot display only "New York". It's possible to make a redirect to a section and place the redirect in a category. Only registered users can create mainspace redirects. If Durango#Mayor was a real section then a redirect could be created at Mayor of Durango with the text:

#REDIRECT [[Durango#Mayor]] {{R to section}}
[[Category:(I didn't find a relevant one)]]

Redirects are displayed in italics in categories so it would display Mayor of Durango.

In a list in an article instead of a category, anything can be displayed and linked with a piped link, for example (click edit to see how it's written):

@Bysomalilander: These errors are showing up because the portal uses text copied directly from article, including references that are not part of the text that has been copied. But if you look at featured portals such as Portal:Geography or Portal:History, you'll see that it is a common practice for portals not to include the references at all, and I recommend that you take that approach to fix the reference errors. However, looking at the recent history of Portal:Somaliland, you first need to discuss at Portal talk:Somaliland whether the portal should exist at all. -- John of Reading (talk) 19:11, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

Please see Why was my page deleted? The most common reasons are:

• The subject did not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the topic
• The page appeared to be blatantly promotional
• The page appeared to unambiguously violate copyright
• The page appeared to be a test
• It was vandalism

To find the specific reason a particular page was deleted:

1. Go to the Deletion Log
2. Type the page title in the case-sensitive search field
3. The date, time and reason for deletion will be displayed.

BernhardUhl, anyone (including you) can see the list of your contributions, and as an administrator, I have access to a similar list of your contributions that have been deleted. According to the latter list, you don't have a single deleted contribution, i.e. no page that you've ever edited has been deleted. Inconsistent warning

Having found a relevant image, I just now added an image (permalink to the resulting edit) to the infobox at Martin County, Kentucky. To my surprise, it didn't show anything. I wondered if I'd made some mistake, so I tweaked the code and previewed, only to get a big red error message: Warning: Martin County, Kentucky is calling Template:Infobox U.S. county with more than one value for the "ex image" parameter. Only the last value provided will be used. (Help) Problem solved: I found the duplicate parameter, removed the one I didn't want, and it all works fine.

Problem: this warning appears when you preview an edit in which the result will have this error, but if you save the page with this error, it doesn't give you any warnings. Why not? With similar warnings for cite errors, we display them in the article itself (consider a random example, the first reference in Amitabha Buddhist Centre), so why not have a similar setup with the warning for this problematic template? Perhaps because the issue you experienced was not an error but just a note about which value the template would use... As per Help:Duplicate parameters, "The message is not shown on the saved page, so readers will not see it, but it should still be fixed. Later editors may not notice the issue and mistakenly change the value of the first assignment. This will have no effect on the rendered page, since only the last assigned value is used." So yes, it would make sense to have some kind of a warning note within the actual article so such mistakes don't occur. Lourdes 19:40, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

In this example a whole image was missed but in most cases the difference is minor or the "right" parameter value is used so there is no issue for readers. We don't want to bother readers with too many red error messages. It's deliberately limited to previews which are only seen by editors. Note that the issue adds the hidden Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls which is visible for users who enable "Show hidden categories" at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-rendering. Hi Hall198 . When you clicked edit you might have noticed a message at the top of the page that said "If possible, please be specific in your question rather than general and link to any page or article your question involves, or at least tell us the title of the page." That would have helped a great deal here because what to tell you on a question like this one is highly dependent on what image you are here about, to replace what other image, in what article – and a copyright assessment based on that information. Brucella abortus edit

Hi! I prepared a draft in my Sandbox that includes two tables that are very big. One reviewer indicated that my draft did not contain enough information for beign a single page, so that it coul be added to the Brucella abortus page. However, it seems that I added a lot of information (1.3Mb) and another editor considered it to be not verifiable (even each line of the table includes a NCBI link to the papers), and also it produced an error. • Hello Marsuareze, I don't know why Robert McClenon may have rejected your draft submission. I suspect the reason to be the super-large tables (that you were earlier wrongly attempting to include in a redirect page called Brucella abortus). In my opinion, you seem to be on the right path after another editor has helped remove the redirect. Once you are finished with your edits on Brucella abortus, don't hesitate to come back here for a second opinion. (Although I'll forewarn you that I am not a bacteria genus expert, and other editors with a better understanding of this area may have an opinion different to mine). Cheers. I initially rejected the draft submission because it was in my view not appropriate for a standalone article but as an addition to an existing article. The current situation, in which Brucella abortus is now a separate article including a table rather than a redirect to Brucella, looks reasonable to me. Also, the current table in Brucella abortus, while large, is not as large as the table originally was. The oversized table was originally causing editing to fail. The current information in Brucella abortus is incomplete, I was thinking of add progressively the lines with other genes to the same table... which eventually will be a mega table again. I was thinking then, that maybe it would be better to add extra tables; for example a table from genes 1 to 1000, another for genes 1001 to 2000... that way the information will be completed and easier to handle, what do you think of this? Right idea Marsuareze. Also, I am just wondering, have you had a chance to read Help:Table, Help:Introduction to tables and Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Tables? I really don't think the current state of the Brucella abortus article is appropriate for Wikipedia. It has one paragraph about the genus Brucella, two on why B. abortus is a good subject for research, and then a table with over 1,000 rows all linking to FASTA records giving the DNA sequences of its genes. There's virtually nothing about B. abortus itself. The article doesn't even say whether it can infect humans, which is likely to be the most relevant aspect for readers. I am in favour of deleting the entire table (we don't have a corresponding one for Homo sapiens, a subject of much greater interest to most readers), and adding some content about the subject of the article. Thanks for your suggestion Lourdes, I checked the page before I prepare my draft, and now that you suggested me to read it, I went back to it. Maproom I understand that the general information about Brucella abortus is not enough yet, I could add that information later also, however we are very interest in provide an editable table of the genome, this way the information can be updated easily. Would you suggest any other way to do it, please? Or not to use Wikipedia at all? The links are not directed to fasta records, are directed to the whole genome sequence -in some genes- and to the papers that support the finding. Your comment is very important because I need to keep adding genes, so the very big table that you saw is not the only one for the genome to be completed. And if I am going to be working on it for this to be deleted, I would prefer then use the time in other mechanism for this to be done. Brucella is a bacterium that has only 2 chromosomes... humans have 46, so... the amount of information would be more than 46X what you saw in the table. Regards. Marsuareze: particularly in view of what you say, Wikipedia is not a good place to maintain the sequence data you have added to Brucella abortus. Here, it is in danger of being deleted (I have not deleted it myself only because I am prejudiced, I used to work with such data myself.) I suggest you find some other site to host it (and as a technical point, I suggest you store the actual data in a database – you can give write-access to your collaborators).
