Wikimedia Tags and Wikimedia Labs[edit]

Hello all, I have two questions. Can someone please tell me

1. How in Wikimedia database https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Database_layout you can find when an article was created? 2. Where the wikimedia-labs forum is now https://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=wikimedia-labs? It says something that it's a private invite by herbert.freenode.net, but I'm not sure how this work?

Thanks! Tom — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tomthirteen (talkcontribs) 00:20, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sol Pais[edit]

Is she worth of an article? The FL teen infatuated with Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold?

Thank you! LLcentury (talk) 03:51, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@LLcentury: The guidance for this is at Wikipedia:Notability (people)#People notable for only one event. -Arch dude (talk) 05:05, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Cats in the Sandbox[edit]

Hello! I removed categories from my sandbox as requested by other users, and I'm not sure if that caused any of the problems like this other thing, but I seem to have left a trail. One for example is that [1] now lists my sandbox as a page which with that shared image. How may I remedy this? Thanks in advance. -Davidlwinkler (talk) 08:39, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Davidlwinkler: It can take a bit of time for "what links here" and similar to regenerate. In your shoes, I would just do nothing, but if you really need it gone, you could purge the page on Commons (see Help:Purge, though the details will slightly vary between en-wp and Commons). User:Davidlwinkler/sandbox does display File:Ceramic fragment with WANAKTI inscription.jpg with the code [[Image:Ceramic_fragment_with_WANAKTI_inscription.jpg|...]]. You cannot remove the listing at "File usage on other wikis" without removing the file from the page, but there is no need to do that. The image is allowed on user pages. Updating a Photo[edit]

Hi there Thank you for taking the time to read my question. My name is Michelle Buchanan and I am an author. I have a Wikipedia page but I am useless with anything IT or internet related and I am terrible at understanding instructions - so please excuse my ignorance. All I am trying to do is update the image on my page to an updated photo but I simply don't understand all of the instructions and all of the copyright stuff and I find it very confusing. I've read the instructions on the site and I've even Googled it and watched a "how to" video - but I still can't do it and I still don't understand.

Please can you help me? This is my page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelle_Buchanan The photo on my page is 10 years old now.

Many thanks in advance. Michelle Buchanan

NZNumerologist (talk) 11:16, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There's no photo on our article Michelle Buchanan. I think you're getting confused with the image that is used on a Google search of yourself. Although some of the info is from Wikipedia, the image is not. We have no control over what Google includes in its results. All I can tell you is that at the bottom of the Google box is a Feedback option, click that and then click the image to let them know the problem. - X201 (talk) 11:56, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@NZNumerologist: We have no way to directly change what Google chooses to display. However, we have observed that Google tends to use the image from your Wikipedia article if it exists. Therefore, you may choose to add a photo here in hopes that Googlewill notice. Step 1: get an image file of a photo you like onto you computer. Make sure that you own the copyright of the photo: you own the copyright if you take it yourself. After that, come back here for further help. -Arch dude (talk) 15:27, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The Fugro logo has been updated as of May 1st 2019. The Fugro Wikipedia page uses the old logo, how can I updated this without being an authorised user?

AskFugro (talk) 11:37, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@AskFugro: See Help:Uploading images for a tutorial. Also, your username cannot be the name of your company because usernames must represent individuals. Please request a username change at WP:CHU/S. shoy (reactions) 14:18, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Searching images in Commons[edit]

How can I search Wikimedia Commons for images? For example, let's say I wanted a picture of "lions". How would I find all pictures that have "lion" in their name or description? --RoyGoldsmith (talk) 13:09, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@RoyGoldsmith: First, go to any page on Commons (e.g., the Commons main page). Then, type your search term into the searh box. -Arch dude (talk) 15:14, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. --RoyGoldsmith (talk) 19:53, 8 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Wiki Team,

we want to create a page like this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QALO for our company. Is this allowed? Can we create it? Please send us some instructions.

Best Regards Spas — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gelocom (talkcontribs)

@Gelocom: Please wait before creating a page about a company or organization.
Since you have a close connection to the company or organization, you have a conflict of interest. Please read the FAQ first. If you still think your article is appropriate, you can submit it to Articles for creation. Just click this link and follow the instructions. Also, if Gelocom is the name of your company, you will need to request a username change. See WP:CHU/S. shoy (reactions) 14:16, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalization on "Queen's Cross Church, Glasgow" page[edit]

One section is called "Mackintosh Design", with no reference to anything by that name, leading me to wonder if it wouldn't be better titled as "Mackintosh's design".--Thylacine24 (talk) 14:02, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Thylacine24:, Under WP:CAPITALIZATION "Mackintosh's design" is preferable.TSventon (talk) 14:09, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, good. Thanks for telling me.--75.110.35.108 (talk) 20:53, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The column of archive-links link to a different article, if somebody could fix that. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:29, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've had a look and gone far back as late-2018 it seems that it's related to the ClueBot III template being different to the actual article I honestly don't know what happened here nor how to fix this. ImpWarfare (talk) 15:47, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The error was introduced when archiving was first set up in Sept 2017 in this edit. (It's an easy mistake to make if you copy over the archiving wikicode from another article and forget to make the necessary changes). I've now made the change: Bhunacat10 (talk), 17:48, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Bhunacat10, that is appreciated, however, whatever you did did not solve the problem. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 18:45, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I expect the problem to be resolved next time ClueBot visits the page. I've tweaked the settings for it to archive the oldest thread (which won't be much loss) so we will see within a day or so: Bhunacat10 (talk), 18:54, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 18:58, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Resolved
Yep, archive box now as it should be: Bhunacat10 (talk), 09:08, 8 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Updating logo on page[edit]

Hi there,

I am trying to update the Palace Theatre's page with their new approved logo in place of the 75th anniversary logo. The system keeps telling me it is not Wikimedia Commons approved or that it is not a constructive edit. The existing logo is outdated. Any help would be appreciated!

Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palace_Theatre_(Albany,_New_York)

Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hex1995 (talkcontribs) 16:39, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Hex1995. Since most organisations are understandably unwilling to license their logos in a way that allows anybody to reuse them for any purpose, they usually can't be uploaded to Commons, which accepts only free material. English Wikipedia allows non-free material to be uploaded (directly to en-wiki) in certain circumstances, specified by the non-free content criteria. Logos are one of the most common uses of those criteria. See Logos for more information. --ColinFine (talk) 18:17, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

What to do when listing a person's spouse in infobox but maiden name is unknown[edit]

Just the first name? A question mark after it?--Thylacine24 (talk) 22:27, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thylacine24, just the first name should be fine. Eman235/talk 22:40, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks.--Thylacine24 (talk) 22:46, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

All my work was deleted may i please have it back and i will fix it and cite it. Im just trying to put all the info in and then i will put it in my own words — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cbizzy2313 (talkcontribs) 23:40, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Cbizzy2313, you can see your old edits in the page's edit history by clicking on the dates. Just take care of not reinserting copyrighted text (or having it closely paraphrased) – Þjarkur (talk) 23:45, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
