Some Wikipedians have formed a project to improve the quality of life here at Wikipedia through Kindness and Recognition of Users. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list there. New participants are welcome; please feel free to join!
Scope and goals
[edit]The goal for the Kindness Campaign is to show recognition of people's determination and to give peace and love across all of Wikipedia!
How you can help
[edit]Anybody can help by making even the smallest gesture of kindness.
- Identify any user who has gone unthanked for too long – which are many users – and recognize their efforts.
- Make an effort to recognize somebody for a history of fine work, or a specific exceptional effort.
- Sign the rolls of the kindness campaign below.
- Add a link to this page on your user page, or the KC user box, and encourage others to join our campaign.
- Assess your peer KC members and give them an award if suitable. Perhaps many are signing up for the KC because they hope to get an award back as return!
How to give recognition
[edit]A common, but not exclusive, way of recognizing somebody is by giving one of the chronically underused barnstars to somebody deserving; a complete list of the most common awards we use can be found at Wikipedia:Barnstars. You can also send them Thanks for an edit they made. You can also recognize somebody by posting to the WikiProject: A nice cup of tea and a sit down. If you have any other ideas for how to recognize somebody, please share it on our Discussion Board!
Ending arguments
[edit]The Peace Doves are a peace offering, or truce, that you offer to someone whom you have had an argument with recently. An apology or note equipped with one of the Peace Dove images presented on a user talk page can easily make someone's day, resolve disputes, and quickly dissipate harsh feelings.
Image | What to type | Description |
---|---|---|
{{subst:Peace dove 2|message ~~~~}} | Peace Dove
The Peace Dove is a peace offering to other users. Introduced by Borisblue. | |
{{subst:Peace dove|message ~~~~}} | Another Peace Dove
Another version of the Peace Dove | |
{{subst:Olive Branch|message ~~~~}} | Olive Branch of Peace
The Olive Branch of Peace may also be given as a sign that a user wants to reconcile a long-standing difference. | |
{{subst:Nice cup of tea|message ~~~~}} | A nice cup of tea and a sit down
A nice cup of tea and a sit down is a place to publicly declare what it is that you like about other members of the community, or their contributions. The goal is to create goodwill, and perhaps assist the dispute resolution processes that occurs on other pages, or if we're lucky avoid disputes at all. Introduced by Borofkin |
Avoiding arguments
[edit]Sometimes discussions may escalate and become heated. This template may be used to help calm the contributors, which may lead to more efficient resolution of the issue(s). This template may be used as a talk page header or among other headers and banners at the TOP of the page. It may also be included within a section to bring its message directly to those who are trying to resolve an issue. Add this at or near the TOP of a talk page in the following manner:
{{Calm}}
Please stay calm and civil while commenting or presenting evidence, and do not make personal attacks. Be patient when approaching solutions to any issues. If consensus is not reached, other solutions exist to draw attention and ensure that more editors mediate or comment on the dispute. |
Spreading kindness
[edit]These other images can also be useful for spreading kindness, recognizing those who do so, and comforting those who need it. You don't need to be told how and when to use them. This is not a bureaucracy.

The template for this userbox is: {{user KC}}
- If you prefer to Keep It Simple, you can use {{WP:KIS/WPKindness}} which displays:
