Salmon is Everything[edit]

What is it about?[edit]

Come right history! Using the HSU Book of the Year Salmon is Everything, come to the Library to improve Wikipedia articles inspired by the Klamath River. Help users discover information about our history and community. We will provide tutorials for beginner Wikipedians, reference materials, and pizza. Bring your laptop, power cord, and ideas for entries that need updating or creation.  This event is held in partnership with the History Club. No experience necessary!

What you need to bring[edit]

  • Participants will need to bring their own laptop or tablet
  • Participants should register a Wikipedia username prior to the workshop. You might first want to review the page on usernames.

Goals[edit]

After participating with in the edit-a-thon you will:

  • become a novice Wikipedia editor
  • understand Wikipedia’s core principles (e.g. no original research, citations, issues concerning conflict of interest)
  • understand the use of sources on Wikipedia
  • understand how to evaluate Wikipedia articles
  • understand how to approach and become a part of the Wikipedia community and social structure
  • be introduced to the Wikimedia Commons and (time allowing) other Wikimedia projects
