Kick off African American History Month with a lively Wikipedia editing session. Please join Mia's Library Affinity Group's campaign to improve coverage and increase visibility of African American visual artists in Wikipedia.

Event information[edit]

  • Event Title: African American Artists Wikipedia Edit-a-thon
  • Date: Saturday, January 28, 2017
  • Time: noon — 4:00 p.m. CST
  • Location: Minneapolis Institute of Art, Target Wing Atrium, Friends Community Room & Library, 2400 Third Avenue South, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55404.
  • Hosts: Meg Black, Susan Jacobsen, Janice Lurie, and Mia Wikipedia
  • Edit-A-Thon Team Members: Kay Beaudrie, Katie Hill. And a special thank you to our Wikipedia mentor, McGhiever.

Please bring a laptop with you as we will only have a limited number available for use.

No Wikipedia experience necessary; training session at 12:30 p.m. for newcomers on the day of the event. Library resources will be on hand for researching artists in the museum's collection. We will also be providing light refreshments and will be presenting a specially designed award cookie for those attendees that add content during the Wikipedia Edit-a-thon.

Free, tickets required. To register, call 612-870-6323 or reserve online [1]. As this is our second Wikipedia event, we will also need experienced Wikipedians to assist others who are new at editing. Please email Meg Black at or Janice Lurie at if you would be willing to help or let us know on the day of the event or on the Participants section below.

If you haven't edited in Wikipedia before, we will help you register for an account. Mia's library [2]is open Tuesday-Friday 11:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and its staff is available for providing assistance in setting up a Wikipedia personal account and for research in preparation for editing Wikipedia. You can search our library's collection online through our catalog Mia Library Catalog. We also have numerous subscription research databases on art that you can access while in the library.

And if you already have a Wikipedia account, please add your Wikipedia username to this section (signatures are created by saving four tildes [~] in a row, add your username and talk page by using three tildes):
