Directions[edit]

At The House[edit]

Go up the ramp to the front door and just walk in and, if there's no one in view, just walk around the fireplace and out to the back porch.

Alternatively, if you're uncomfortable walking into a possibly empty house, and if you're not melissophobic, you may walk around the house on the left side and the porch will be obvious.

In case you're so inclined, there will be materials for making a label for yourself (screen name, real name, neither, or both, whatever you want folks to call you by and know you as).

To the House[edit]

From Within Gainseville[edit]

From NW 13th Street[edit]
  • Take U.S. 441, aka NW 13th Street, to NW 10th Avenue; there's a traffic light at that intersection and there's an Applebee's in the northeast corner. Turn west, that is, away from the Applebee's.
  • 1708 is on the right after the second speed bump, at the landing on the hill. Note that the house right before it house has a ubiquitous turquoise wall in front of it. Before the driveway is a garden on the street and after the driveway is a hedge of pomegranates; the driveway is of concrete and is curved, with a wooden staircase and ramp at the end.
From Western Gainesville[edit]
  • Take Newberry Road until the fork with 8th Ave., proceed on NW 8th Ave. for a few miles, until NW 8th Ave. narrows to 2 lanes, after which there are 2 traffic lights: At the second traffic light (NW 18th Terr.) turn left.
  • Go 2 blocks to the 4-way stop (NW 10th Ave.): Turn right.
  • After the second speed bump, 1708 is the second house on the left: Before the driveway is a hedge of pomegranates and after it there's a garden on the street; the driveway is of concrete and is curved, with a wooden staircase and ramp at the end; in case you miss it, note that the next house has a ubiquitous turquoise wall in front of it.
From UF Campus[edit]
If you're closer to 22nd St than to 17th St.[edit]
  • From University Ave. head north (the only possibility) on 22nd St.
  • After the traffic light at 8th Ave take the next right, 9th Ave.
  • Take the 1st left, 21st Terr.
  • Take the 1st right, 10th Ave., which turns into 21st St. and then into 11th Rd.
  • Where 10th Ave forks off from 11th Rd., bear right (the wider road) onto 10th Ave.
  • Pass the 4-way stop pick up with the last step in the directions from western Gainesville.
If you're closer to 17th St. than to 13th St.[edit]
  • Head north on 17th St. and
– either –
    • Go to the end (8th Ave.), turn left.
    • Go to the light, (18th. Terr.), turn right.
– or –
    • Go to 5th Ave (or any other intersecting road before 8th Ave.) and turn left.
    • After a block, turn right onto 18th Terr.
– and –
If you're closer to 13th St. than to 17th St.[edit]

From Out of Town[edit]

From the North via I-75[edit]
Method 1: Longer but Less In-town Driving[edit]
  • Drive southbound on Interstate 75; exit at NW 39th Ave (State Road 222/Exit 390) and turn left (eastbound).
  • Turn right (southbound) on NW 43rd St.
  • Turn left (eastbound) on NW 16th Blvd. (which becomes NW 16th Ave.)
  • Turn right (southbound) on NW 18th St. (which becomes NW 18th Terr.) — if you fail to find 18th Terr., proceed to the second light (NW 13th St.), turn right and continue as explained in the directions from NW 13th Street.
  • At the 4-way stop (NW 10th Ave.): Turn left.
  • After the second speed bump, 1708 is the second house on the left: Before the driveway is a hedge of pomegranates and after the driveway is a garden on the street; the driveway is of concrete and is curved, with a wooden staircase and ramp at the end; in case you miss it, note that the next house has a ubiquitous turquoise wall in front of it.
Method 2: Shorter, but More Non-Interstate driving. Faster Most of the Time[edit]
  • Drive southbound on Interstate 75 until exit 399 (US-441 for Alachua/High Springs) and turn left (southbound).
  • Entering Gainesville you will be on a numbered Cartesian grid and after 16 miles from the exit is NW 10th Avenue at which intersection is a light and an Applebee's in the near left (northeast) corner. Turn right, that is, away from the Applebee's and continue as explained in directions from NW 13th Street.
From the South via I-75[edit]
Method 1: Longer but Less In-town Driving[edit]
  • Drive northbound on Interstate 75 until exit 387 (W Newberry Rd / SR26) and turn right (eastbound).
  • Proceed on Newberry Rd for exactly 1 mile, at which point the road forks at a traffic light where the left 2 lanes become NW 8th Ave: Turn onto NW 8th Ave.
  • Continue with the directions at directions from western Gainesville
Method 2: Shorter, but More Non-Interstate driving. Faster Most of the Time[edit]
  • Proceed to the Micanopy exit, Exit 374. At the end of the ramp, at the stop sign, turn right.
  • Proceed to the end of the road, 1.3 miles; turn left (you will now be on U.S. 441 northbound).
  • After 10 miles you enter the city and will be on a numbered Cartesian grid. The dividing line betwixt south and north – Zeroeth Avenue, as it were – which is actually called University Avenue, is north of the north edge of campus; 10 blocks past that is NW 10th Avenue; at the intersection is a light and there is an Applebee's in the far right (northeast) corner.
  • Turn left, that is, away from the Applebee's and continue as explained in directions from NW 13th Street
From the Panhandle[edit]
Method 1[edit]
