Event information

[edit]

The Art and Feminism edit-a-thon is a global event and last year more than 1500 participants from all over the world took part. This year we are getting involved in Wales in a bid to close the gender gap on Wikipedia and create or improve articles on subjects related to art and feminism. At Pen’rallt Gallery Bookshop in Machynlleth on Sunday, 6 March, we're getting together for some active re-skewing of the shared human knowledge represented by Wikipedia. Drop in, or stay for a while between 11am and 4pm. We'll use the day as an opportunity to add to, or create entries on women artists, contributing to the world-wide update of Wikipedia entries on subjects related to art and feminism. There'll be tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian and reference material, refreshments and, at the end of the day, from 4 – 4.30pm, some entertainment - a conversation in costume with with Miss Frances Power Cobbe & Miss Mary Charlotte Lloyd, Victorian writers/artists/campaigners' who lived near Dolgellau. Brought to us by Jane Hoy and Helen Sandler from Pennal, who researched and wrote this piece for LGBT history month. Bring a sandwich, your laptop (if you have one) and power cord, and any ideas you have for entries that need updating or creating. If you don’t want to create or update Wikipedia entries, but would like to offer and research ideas for entries, come along too.Find out more here
