Requests for page protection

This page is for requesting that a page, file or template be fully protected, create protected (salted), extended confirmed protected, semi-protected, added to pending changes, move-protected, template protected (template-specific), upload protected (file-specific), or unprotected. Please read up on the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates, semi-protection and pending changes are usually used only to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection), and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars.

After a page has been protected, the protection is listed in the page history and logs with a short description indicating why it was protected, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. Further discussion should take place on the Talk page of the article. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins do not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

If you would like to request to have a page protected, have a page's existing protection level lowered or raised, or would like to submit an edit request for a protected page, please follow these steps (note: if you enable the Twinkle gadget for your Wikipedia account, this process can be largely automated for you):

  1. If you are requesting unprotection, the correct protocol is to ask the protecting administrator first for unprotection (the admin's user account name can be found in the page's edit history). If for any reason he or she is unresponsive, unwilling, or unable to lower protection then you may list your request on this page.
  2. Add a level 3 header (i.e. === Example title ===) with the exact title of the page you would like (un)protected. If the page is not in the article namespace, include the namespace prefix (e.g. Template:Example template or User:Example user). Place your request at the bottom of either the protection or unprotection list, depending on the nature of your request, and place the pagelinks template below the header in the form of * Example title. Please make sure you have spelled the name of the article properly; a common error stems from mistaken requests for the protection of redirects, particularly capitalised ones (Twinkle can make sure this never happens to you!).
  3. If you are requesting protection, write the type of request (full protection, semi-protection, pending changes, move protection) and a brief reason for your request below your header.
  4. Please do not add arbitrary requests for a protection expiry time to your request, or request indefinite protection arbitrarily.
    • If there is a reason for a page to be protected for a certain amount of time, such as protecting a user talk page until the user is unblocked, please make this clear.
    • If you are requesting indefinite semi-protection or pending changes, be aware that it is only applied to articles with endemic and endless vandalism problems which multiple increasing periods of temporary semi-protection or pending changes have failed to stop.
    • Note that different expiry times can be set for edit- and for move-protections— thus, an article can, for example, be semi-edit-protected for a week and also fully-move-protected indefinitely.
  5. Sign your request with four tildes ~~~~ and click Save page.
  • Note: editors should not consider requesting page protection as a method for continuing an argument from elsewhere nor as a venue for starting a new discussion regarding article content. If a request contains excessive argument, appears to be intended to resolve a content dispute, includes personal attacks or uncivil comments, or has any other unrelated discussion, it will be removed from this page and no action will be taken.
For single page requests
Example Article Name
* Example Article Name
Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. ~~~~
Template:Example Template Name
* Template:Example Template Name
Reduction in protection level: From full protection to template editor protection. ~~~~
For multiple page requests with the same criteria
Short descriptive header
* Wikipedia:Example Page Name 1
* Wikipedia:Example Page Name 2
Temporary semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. ~~~~

Current requests for increase in protection level[edit]

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the rolling archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Rasmea Odeh[edit]

Extended confirmed: Arbitration enforcement. Shrike (talk) 10:36, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protected Lectonar (talk) 11:17, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Gerald M. Steinberg[edit]

Indefinite extended confirmed: Arbitration enforcement – WP:ARBPIA3#500/30: IP violated the arbitration restriction while it was in force, by editing the article. Luis150902 (talk | contribs) 13:43, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protected indefinitely. NeilN talk to me 13:55, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Vox Day[edit]

Temporary semi-protection: Some serious BLP policy violations and libellous content over the past week from different IP users, who have not yet been banned. Kind Tennis Fan (talk) 14:24, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Libelous content was removed, no activity in the last day. Lectonar (talk) 14:39, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Gallo-Italic of Sicily[edit]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Sıgehelmus (Talk) |д=) 15:49, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Declined Disruptive, yes, but just one registered user, who hasn't edited since you warned them. I've reported them to UAA, as that seemed necessary, but in any case, if they repeat, send to AIV: if they sock, come back here. Vanamonde (talk) 16:06, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Smith & Wesson M&P15[edit]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent edit-warring by IP editor(s). . Niteshift36 (talk) 16:50, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Second and ask that protection applies to the talk page as well. Springee (talk) 17:03, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Please mention the next time that you think it is an IP-hopper. Lectonar (talk) 17:17, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
@Lectonar:, would you also protect the talk page? The IP is acting there as well. Springee (talk) 17:45, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
I don't think it should be protected. The IP is not being disruptive. He is bringing up good points and discussing them in a reasonable matter. This appears to be an effort to skew the POV of the article. Felsic2 (talk) 18:18, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
Ok...I have looked closer this time...I agree that this is edit-warring again, so now Fully protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.. Sorry about overlooking this before. Lectonar (talk) 18:22, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
Thank you. Felsic2 (talk) 18:24, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
What Felsic2 failed to mention is that the IP jumping editor is likely a sock of an editor who is violating a topic ban. The IP has been blocked perhaps 40 times this year and has resulted in a number of page protections. 1 Springee (talk) 19:29, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
The problem being that it is only likely, not confirmed. Without this being confirmed...I can see only edit-warring. Another SPI seems to be the way here. Some of these day we might see a confirmed. Lectonar (talk) 20:03, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
The IPs have been confirmed to belong to the same editor. Given the behavior of the IP I see no reason why we shouldn't treat the IP as continuing disruptive behavior that had already resulted in page protections. Springee (talk) 20:51, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Popular Front of India[edit]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Activists belonging to Popular Front of India, are trying to remove contents which they don't like about their organization. Marvellous Spider-Man 17:18, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

DeclinedWarn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. That is one IP. Lectonar (talk) 17:20, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
Lectonar The page was protected 3 times in last 4 months (once extended confirmed). --Marvellous Spider-Man 17:25, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
Marvellous Spider-Man Yes...last protection ended March 12th, and there was little disruption after that except the one IP. Lectonar (talk) 18:16, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

The World's End (film)[edit]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Dynamic IP editor is blanking content and, occasionally, the citation that backs it up. This has been going on intermittently for the past year. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 17:46, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Pending-changes protected for a period of 1 year, after which the page will be automatically unprotected., pending changes should work best for this disruption frequency.--Ymblanter (talk) 19:15, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Romeoville, Illinois[edit]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Magnolia677 (talk) 18:57, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – High level of promotionalism by IPs and single-purpose, recently opened accounts. . K.e.coffman (talk) 20:05, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

"Pending-changes" protection might also work. K.e.coffman (talk) 20:48, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Violett Beane[edit]

Temporary semi-protection: Page came off semi-protection about a week ago, but the IP vandals are back in force today. --IJBall (contribstalk) 20:39, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. NeilN talk to me 20:43, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level[edit]

Please post requests in this section for removing or reducing the protection level of a page if the protecting admin is inactive or you have already asked them.
  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add Edit fully-protected to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check here if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Total Nonstop Action Wrestling[edit]

Unprotection: This page should be moved to Impact Wrestling , as the TV program has already been moved. see my moves log. Kostas20142 (talk) 11:57, 27 March 2017 (UTC)

  • Automated comment: One or more pages in this request appear to have already been unprotected. Please confirm.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 12:21, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
@NeilN:, could you please comment and possibly close this request?--Ymblanter (talk) 10:29, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Declined @Kostas20142: See Talk:Total_Nonstop_Action_Wrestling#Requested_move_25_March_2017 NeilN talk to me 12:43, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

@NeilN: I wont move it to the nominated title, but the other mentioned at "oppose as nominated' --Kostas20142 (talk) 14:56, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
@Kostas20142: There's no need to remove move protection until consensus has formed regarding what the article title should be. --NeilN talk to me 15:19, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Migo Adecer[edit]

Reduce protection level: In June 2016, the page was tagged for creation protection by User:Anthony Bradbury after being repeatedly created and deleated. The article requires administrator access to be created, and I request for access to create the page. Here is my draft for the page: Draft:Migo Adecer. I am also planning to create Klea Pineda article, which is also on creation protection. EddieWow (talk) 06:26, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Note: Let's see what he says, as you have contacted him. Lectonar (talk) 08:34, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
This article was originally deleted as a result of an {{WP:AfD|Afd]] referral and community discussion. It was therafter re-created three times, always in the same form, and deleted; the final time by me, when I salted it. The draft appears to essentially similar, and I would not agree to its re-creation. The second article mentioned has also been deleted four times, but not be me. I therefore have no comment to make on that one.--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 15:11, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Template:DYK article[edit]

Unprotection: WT:DYK#DYK_article and what links here suggest that this template is too rarely used to merit protection. @TheCoffee: seems to be mostly inactive. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 19:41, 28 March 2017 (UTC). Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 19:41, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Done I've brought this down to semi-protection. Lectonar (talk) 20:06, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page[edit]

Further information: Wikipedia:Edit requests

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among Edit protected, Edit template-protected, Edit extended-protected, or Edit semi-protected to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the request edit template should be used.
  • Page move requests should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be locked. Please make requests as long as you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Handled requests[edit]
