Wikipedia:Cut-and-paste-move repair holding pen

Jump to: navigation, search

This page was originally for listing cut-and-paste moves which could not be repaired due to a then-extant technical limitation. The limitation has since been removed, but this page is still available if you find a cut-and-paste move, and are not able to repair it yourself (there is a procedure for doing it, but 1. only admins can do it, and 2. it's a bit tricky).

Currently the only technical limitation is that category and file description pages can't be moved.

Admins: please read Wikipedia:How to fix cut-and-paste moves and Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions.

Please read Wikipedia:New histmerge list and Wikipedia talk:New histmerge list.

The procedure[edit]

  • Place a {{histmerge|NAME OF PAGE THE ARTICLE WAS CUT FROM}} template at the new location of the article which has been moved through cut and pasting, i.e. on the article where the pasting was done.
  • If the issue is clear-cut (straight up cut-and-paste move to a better title), having this speedy delete tag on the page should be enough. In more complex cases (explained at Wikipedia:How to fix cut-and-paste moves), please leave a description of the problem under the "Repair requests" section.
  • An admin will look the pages over and perform whatever tasks are necessary.
  • Once this is done, the admin will post the result here.
  • Old requests will be removed after 30 days.

Repair requests[edit]

Note: pages tagged with {{histmerge}} are automatically placed in Category:Candidates for history merging.

Please add new requests to the top of the New Requests section. Thanks.

  • What means “only my contributions”? The whole history must be preserved. Otherwise it hasn’t a merit. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 09:27, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
  • You were the only person that actually contributed content to that article. Everything else are just redirects or blankings of the page. —Ahnoneemoos (talk) 11:57, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
  • So, you propose to keep my numerous posts with edit warring accusations online, but remove its record from the public view. It’s cute, but it will not be done. Generally, I suggest to abandon this request until normalization of the situation. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 12:29, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
  • It doesn't make sense to copy edit warring into another article's history when the copying of such edit warring wouldn't make sense in the new merged history. We usually only copy the content contributions when we merge histories and leave the edit warring out. Your reverts and whatever don't need to be copied over since that's part of the edit war. We would only be copying the edits in which you actually contributed content. To make it more obvious, since it seems there's a language barrier here, we would only be copying this edit [5] and this other one [6]. All the others are meaningless and won't be copied since they are just part of the edit war. Understand now? —Ahnoneemoos (talk) 13:36, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
