    • Repeated vandalism of Template:Not notable after being warned on his userpage to stop. Firebug 15:52, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)
      • This is a content dispute. If you want to make a template that only you have control over, create it in your userspace. I will not revert it any more because of the Three Revert Rule. --SPUI (talk) 15:56, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)
        • This is not a content dispute. The entire purpose of the template is to indicate non-notability. SPUI continues to remove the text and replace it with text saying the opposite of the template's intended purpose. If someone blanked Template:POV and replaced it with a statement saying that the article was completely neutral and factual, that would clearly constitute vandalism. This is no different. Furthermore, SPUI's claims that he would stop reverting are a lie. He has continued to re-vandalize the template. As a member of the extreme inclusionist faction, he feels that everything deserves to be included in Wikipedia, and he feels entitled to vandalize anything he wants to get his way. Firebug 17:23, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The issue seems to be resolved, with Firebug moving the template to his userspace. See Wikipedia:Templates_for_deletion#Template:Not_notable. TIMBO (T A L K) 16:47, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • I have tagged the template for speedy deletion - not because of User:SPUI's vandalism, but rather because of technical arguments made by User:Radiant! and various others that it unnecessarily loads the server. Both the template and the redirect may now be deleted. Firebug 05:54, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Nonsense warning at User talk:

  • I've looked around and have no idea what policy would recommend for this situation, so I decided to put it here. There is a nonsense warning on page User talk:, but this appears to be a wiki-internal IP which is assigned to incoming visitors. So I suspect the warning is being shown to many visitors, whether they edited anything or not. The warning was added by Viriditas, but I have no specific reason to believe the intent was vandalism. Policy advice is welcome. CoyneT 21:07, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC) Talk

Since February 13, IPs in the 168.253 range have vandalized Katie Couric with various disparaging remarks (lately the target has been reverting Katie's status as "journalist" to something like "entertainer" and "infotainer" [8], [9], earlier vandalisms include remarking how "annoying" it is that she drops the "g" off the end of words [10], [11]). At this point, the IP is the only person editing the article on a semi-daily basis. I'm considering protecting the page, as it's fairly uncontroversial and no one would be dying to edit it. In the meantime, what else can we do? Mike H 16:04, Apr 11, 2005 (UTC)

    • The activity of this user seems to consist exclusively of adding probable-spam external links to pages. In many or all cases, the added links appear to point to commercially-operated sites of little educational value, although the added links are relevant to the subject matter of the affected pages. No explanation appears to ever be provided about why the links were inserted. The most recent example was the digital photography page, which has had the same dubious external link added to it twice in recent days (both reverted by me). Many other such examples (often, but not always, followed by rapid reverts) can be found in the user's contribution history. Cat5nap 19:42, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The_Matrix (history · watch)

This article has been repeatedly, anonymously vandalized with the rationale of "This was a stub that was voted on by the wikipedia community to be merged and re-directed to here." (regarding the reference to Matrixism). While that was true, the reference was given a factual edit and in fact remains in the present version of the article. Constant, unwarranted, anonymous reversions of good-faith edits constitute vandalism and should be treated as such.

    • This user has created a nonsense/vanity article (Clout three times today. It has been speedily deleted twice. • This user is in arbitration, and is going out in style, making destructive edits to a number of pages. Case in point:
    • Template:Divbox -- tagging structural template, causing chain-reaction disruption in several places on which disputed template appears.
Please note the issue is not the nomination for deletion of the template, or initial placing {tfd} on template, or hostile tone. Tag moved to talk page and TfD process continues. User reverted tag to template itself, re-creating disruption; user warned; user reverted again. Another user (User:Susvolans) repaired vandalism; user warned again. User reverted again and asked to be listed here. Please see Talk for explanation and demonstration of template vandalism.
User has repeated this pattern of attack on at least five templates. — XiongXiong2char.pngtalk 20:53, 2005 Apr 4 (UTC)

    • Keeps adding a reference to a fake character "Deviler" in the Alien experiment (Lilo & Stitch) article. Numerous reverts have been - made, but the reference keeps being added by the same user. :( We've explained the reverts on the edit summaries, on the talk pages and even on the user's talk page.
    • Also adds erroneous info to Thomas the Tank Engine related article (see user's contribution page).
    • Has just added the same erroneous info to almost all the Thomas the Tank Engine related articles. Its taken me a good 30 minutes to revert all of them. I'll mention this at WP:AN/I also. Thryduulf 23:04, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

    • This user needs to be blocked because I kept reverting him/her at the new Garbage album Bleed Like Me. So do these other users at the history of the page, see here. -- Mike Garcia 00:50, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)
      • This user keeps changing the information to correctly state that Bleed Like Me will be released by Warner Bros on April 11th 2005, except in North America, where it will be released on April 12th 2005. For some reason, Mike keeps on reverting this to state that it it will be released in Europe on April 11th and the USA on April 12th. While this is technically correct, User:'s revision is more correct as it accounts for all of the world. ~~

    • Patricia Cornwell (history · watch) DreamGuy is deleting notice of a clear NPOV violation. He's also making false statements now to attack me, really sounds like he's on Patricia Cornwell's payroll. To repeat: The "Patricia Cornwell" page has been hijacked for criminal and propaganda purposes False statements have been inserted regarding current felony crimes involving Cornwell - this is actually a new felony crime of "obstruction of justice" using Wikipedia. The real facts of Cornwell's life of many scandals are systematically deleted/omitted. A large part of the page is devoted now to a libelous, deceptive, highly personal attack on Cornwell's biographer. Seems like people on Cornwell's payroll have been trying to use Wikipedia as their tool. The page needs major re-work after Cornwell's agents are ejected.Drlsachs 21:17, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Ruy Lopez

My "vandalism" is a reversion I did on History of Japan, actually the one reversion to the one edit I ever did on that page. The sentence had said "U.S. objectives were to transform Japan into a more democratic country that would never again be a military threat; later, in the face of the Cold War and the Korean War, Japan came to be seen as a crucial ally." which I felt was a little POV so I changed it to "U.S. objectives were to ensure that Japan would become an ally and an anti-communist capitalist country." Curps reverted my edit, and I reverted it back because what Curps said made little sense. This is the best example Vozenilek can find for his attempt to call me a vandal. I should note that this wasn't discussed back and forth on that page or elsewhere, he just saw that revert and decided to list me here. Whatever. This is nonsensical and he's already taken up five minutes more of my life than he deserves to. Ruy Lopez 03:08, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I am much more arguing about your style of edits which is POV vandalism by definition. I for example do not like that you started on reverting my changes w/o giving explanation. I for example know something about Prague Spring yet you obviously have formed opinion once forever. Pavel Vozenilek 04:07, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Then created a page called Asarim about a book that doesn't exist in -- I can't tell if it's vandalism now because user has now posted some apparently correct edits in Vallejo, using a newly created user Isitel account, possibly to continue future vandalism. Asarim appears to be nonsense because originally was created with a nonsense url link, which user Isitel removed after seeing me mark page for speedy delete. Created Isitel page at 22:12, 23 Apr 2005 (first Isitel edit of Asarim) and is currently trying to repeatedly remove giveaway nonsense URL on Asarim page now that I marked it for deletion. Isitel then just went to Isitel user page at 22:36, 23 Apr 2005 to remove the nonsense URL "" which Isitel previously listed on own user page because user knows this gives away vandalism intent because I listed Asarim for deletion. Isitel has since made a couple of correct edits about a town in Spain and historical figure Vallejo, so at this point I leave it to you people to figure this out. Isitel and the IP person claim Asarim was written by "Ed & Marisa Vallejo," about whom nothing exists on the Internet. — Emerman 02:49, 24 Apr 2005 (UTC)

    • Spamming I think for Tony Blair, created a new page titled Education, education, education, one of Blair's catchphrases and redirected it to Tony Blair. With the help of a more experienced user it has been listed for deletion but I believe this was rather blatant vandalism by the user in order to promote Blair on Google searches. Perhaps there is another explanation but seems like vandalism to me. UDoN't!wAn* 22:49, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The link showing the vandalism

Article says "Last weekend Tony Blair repeated his mantra of "education, education, education".

What? I looked up "education, education, education" thinking there might possibly be an article on it, as it is a very famous slogan. Upon seeing that there was no article, I thought it might conceivably be helpful to someone to be redirected to Tony Blair, the guy who said it. Am I being accused of being a Blair lover? I hate the guy. As prime minister of the world fourth largest economic power, I hardly think Blair needs me to boost his pagerank. Is this a joke listing? — Helpful Dave 23:34, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I saw this and had the same "huh?" reaction. I hardly think this is "blatant vandalism" and creating the redirect makes perfect sense. --MPerel ( talk | contrib) 23:38, Apr 22, 2005 (UTC)

It is certainly not a joke. I note your failure to respond to me directly also. The point is that it is a slogan used by Tony Blair although naturally enough the word "Education" is not synonymous with Blair at all. Blair is currently going through an election and I believe that was the reason for the placement of what amounts to be promotional material for "Helpful Dave's" candidate. The redirection will be deleted, but the user should be admonished if not permanently terminated. I am not satisfied with the explanation proferred by any means. UDoN't!wAn* 00:34, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The excuse offered for the vandalism is obviously inadequate. If it was such a famous slogan, in which the vandal had keen interest then he would have written a brief article about it, instead he did what I see many spammers do and try to trick Google with links and descriptions of links to maximize the amount of traffic they receive. I don't care either way about Blair or his slogan it just saddens me to see "Helpful Dave" misuse Wikipedia's high rankings in Google for his own political ends. It's not what it should be about. UDoN't!wAn* 00:39, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

This isn't vandalism. Isn't even close. Please read Wikipedia:Vandalism: vandalism is "indisputably bad-faith". Feel free to vote to delete the redirect, but please don't accuse others of vandalism when they are clearly acting in good faith. Rhobite 00:49, Apr 23, 2005 (UTC)
Hello, I may misunderstand what vandalism is I looked it up and saw references to spamming and thought yes the chap has definitely indulged in political promotionalism. I must admit I am confused about why you think the offending redirection should be deletion but the offense which caused it should remain unmolested. UDoN't!wAn* 00:57, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)b
I really must emphasize that it is vandalism otherwise you will see an epidemic of "Stronger America" diverting to John Kerry, and every slogan used by a politico and their paid promotionalists cloggging up the Wikipedia in its entirety. And how would that be? Only by cutting out the cancerous tumor now can you be certain the vandalism of this promotional nature be circumvented. UDoN't!wAn* 01:00, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

This was another reincarnation of the banned user Iasson/Faethon. These are "public accounts" where the password is the same as the username. The common practice for dealing with these is:
  • log into the account and change the password to something random (also blank the email address if one is provided)
  • make a note on the user and/or talk pages of the account to say that it is no longer public (optionally using the {{sockpuppet|Iasson}} template.
  • using the account, post a note at WP:AN/I:
    • request that Iasson's ban timer is reset (he is banned for 1 year from the date of his most recent contribution - see Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Iasson).
    • Sign the post (~~~~) followed by a note of your account ([[user:MyUser]]).
  • log out of that account and back in as yourself
  • post a note at WP:AN/I immediately below the one you just made to confirm that it was you.
I know this is long winded (it took me about 5 minutes to do that for Agathocles of Bactria), but if you aren't an administrator it is all you can do.
If you want, you can help the community spot new incarnations by looking at user:Thryduulf/Users named after ancient Greeks every so often (instructions are on that page). Thryduulf 11:52, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I did change the password of Agesander, but I cannot remember what to. I followed the link to a random page and landed up at the article of someone I'd never heard of. I selected a couple of random words from that article and set that as the password.
I do edit from more than one IP address, because I edit from home and work.
  • My IP address here at work is: My traffic here goes through a proxy server, so it is likely the IP of that machine.
  • The only other address I've edited from recently is my home one, which starts with 80. (I can't remember what it is, but if needed will quote it later when I am at home, likely to be no earlier than 18:30 British Summer Time). This is an IP on Tiscali's UK broadband network, which will be dynamic. However as it is an always-on connection, the IP will have remained the same since it was last disconnected - which I believe would have been when the power got turned off a couple of weeks ago when we were having building work done.
  • Previously I have also edited from the computer society at university, the IP of their (iirc) is; my mobile phone (no idea about the IP there); an internet lounge in Newcaslte-upon-Tyne Aiport; and my uncles' house (I don't know what network he is on).
There may be others as well that I can't remember off the top of my head. Thryduulf 15:15, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

However, I later insisted that we make some type of peace, he only responded by insulting me with words such as "troll" or "juvenille", (which m former actions were), and ater by the letters WAFM, a not-to-secretive attempt in his sneaky way to say "what a f***ing moron. When I inquired why he called me such a name, he responded to this simple question with his "catchphrase" delete vandal. I was a vandal, now is time for a change. And yes I do iunsult him on my user page but he deserves every last word. If this is violating Wikipedia polic, I will move them to another website. I will publicize DreamGuy's actions and macabre allegations to the public as soon as possible. Block him off Wikipedia for an instensive period, to promote the good-faith and well being of our viewers. In addition, in order to attain his revenge, DreamGu resorts to childish methods, such as reverting my worthy articles on La Malinche and others to attain his petty revenge. Do not block User:Gabrielsion, he has only tried to defend the wholesomeness of Wikipedia by confronting DreamGuy. he must be stopped. Remove him from Wikipedia!

    • Also goes by name of User:Dbraceyrules and admits on that page to vandalism and harassment, though most vandalism is from the IP. Repeated vandalism of my talk page with swear words and insults, blanking of vandalism warnings on his talk page (either erasing them or leaving swearwords directed at others), tried to file a false vandalism report on bottom of this page. Continued harassment, in league with User:Gabrielsimon, as seen on their respective talk pages. He already has erased an earlier vandalism report about his behavior on April 20. Tried erasing this vandalism report as well. DreamGuy 02:30, Apr 22, 2005 (UTC)

Sandbox troll

This is one of the weirdest guys I have ever seen. He has some sockpuppets on Wikipedia:

See the Sandbox history for more details

Typical features of this troll include:

  • Strange edit summaries that are quite long
  • Edits nothing but the sandbox
  • User name is strange and often very long
  • Likes to change accounts
  • Does not have a user page, thus his name is "red"

I don't know who this guy is, but he is getting very annoying.

-- Stevey7788 04:00, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • As long as he restrains himself to the Sandbox, I don't see this as a particularly significant issue. Better for him to be exercising his "creative" urges in a location specifically designed for that purpose. Firebug 04:38, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)
    • Personally, Issues 1,3,5 are not illegal in Wikipedia, since there are many users with good edits but no user page. Issue 6, the Sandbot usually clears out anything in 12 hours, or just other users just come in and either clean up his/her junk or replace it with new stuff. Issues 2 and 4 might of the main concern, though I mainly wish to point out that some users put down over 100kb of text, like DrZoidberg. We also have concerns of people just editing one page, and what I mainly think is that is causing some concern. Issue 4, with the sockpuppets, is that if things get bad enough, we can put on their page that they are a sockpuppet of X user, though as Stevey points out correctly, this user has many names, thus probably an dynamic IP address. I know the Sandbox is one of the most vandalized pages, but we should tread with caution on this one. Zscout370 16:19, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • This is the last straw. Not only is this user up on RfC, another user with no prior history has come out of nowhere to nominate him for administrator status. He will not respond to anything but the most basic concerns despite friendly advice bordering on pleading from not only myself but a number of other users. This latest edit comes from Freddy Got Fingered: There is a scene where Gord wacks the horse's thingy. As he travels the highway, he sees the horse being wacked on and then starts the wacking. His edits are far more disruptive than helpful and I'm beginning to wonder whether or not we're really dealing with a clueless newbie or full-tilt troll. - Lucky 6.9 00:51, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
    • Comment: While I have no direct evidence, I have some suspicions that the parties responsible for his admin nomination as well as a new user who posted a disparaging comment on SamuraiClinton's talk page are all sockpuppets of his. - Lucky 6.9 06:51, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
    • I share similar suspicions. Can we get a sockpuppet check on User:SamuraiClinton, User:LevelCheck, User: and User:SuperDude115 please? -- FP 07:54, Apr 17, 2005 (UTC)
      • LevelCheck/ seems to be a different person, possibly one who felt like trolling SamuraiClinton. The IP resolves to Atlanta, while SamuraiClinton is in Michigan. On the other hand, SuperDude115 seems to either be SamuraiClinton or an impersonator. --SPUI (talk) 08:53, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • I'll bet you're right. "SuperDude" has suddenly started in on the VfD page, voting to keep Livonia Mall, a Samurai contribution about a mall in...yup, Michigan. I've voiced that opinion on my own vote to delete as a non-notable, generic mall. Also, note SuperDude's writing style in comparison to SamuraiClinton. Heck, even the user names are similar as being portmanteaus of two proper nouns. - Lucky 6.9 09:09, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • User:SuperDude115 is without question the same user. I'd left word on the SamuraiClinton talk page with an offer to tutor him before stumbling on a SuperDude115 non-article called Impulse buying. I'm not sure whether to withdraw my original offer or not. I'm beginning to think a time-out is definitely warranted. - Lucky 6.9 22:49, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)

He continues to thwart the rules of conduct, he refuses to admit his wrongdoing, he has rejected each and every reasonable offer from a score of other users to end this behavior and now we have...these. No more. It has to end here and now. - Lucky 6.9 02:29, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)
    • Comment: There is now a glimmer of hope here. The latest edit by SuperDude115 is an article called Grand Theftendo. This is not only a legit and fascinating project which is attempting to create an 8-bit NES emulator version of "Grand Theft Auto," the initial entry was an excellent stub. - Lucky 6.9 04:34, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)
    • Additional comment: It appears we're dealing not with a troll or vandal but with an autistic individual who means well. He admitted to it on my talk page after I carefully speculated to another user that autism was the possible root of the problem. I'm withdrawing the vandalism charge and I hope to see the RfC wrapped up soon as well. - Lucky 6.9 17:35, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)
