On this WP:WSS subpage, you can propose new stub types (please read the procedures beforehand!), as well as the reorganization and subdivision of existing stub types. You can also discuss anything else related to stubs on the talk page.

Proposing new stub types – procedure[edit]

Important: If you wish to propose the creation of a stub ARTICLE you've come to the wrong place. If you don't have a username yourself, please go to WP:AFC for proposing a new article. If you already have a username, you can create the article yourself. If you don't know how, add {{Helpme}} to your user talk page to request help from other editors. This page only deals with stub TEMPLATES and CATEGORIES; we cannot help you with creating articles.

Proposing new stub types
If you wish to propose a new stub category and template, please follow these procedures:
  1. Check the List of stub types or under Category:Stub categories to make sure that your proposed new stub does not already exist.
  2. List it at the top of the current month's section, under a header, like the ones shown (if any). Sign it with a datestamp (~~~~).
    • Please bear in mind that a stub category isn't about the importance or notability of the topic!
  3. Find a good number[1] of stub articles, as many as you can, that will fit that template. You may use this tool to scan through categories, or this one in more complicated cases; tagged stubs are always 2 levels down in Category:Stub categories and transclude {{asbox}}. Each of these articles can be:
    • currently marked with {{stub}};
    • currently marked with another type of stub tag (in which case you should justify why your tag is better for the article than the current one);
    • a stub whose categorisation is highly ambiguous or questionable;
    • not marked as a stub.
  4. If you use any category scan (from the tool mentioned above or from any other), please link to it so that other users can confirm that the results are still accurate.
  5. Others may do the same, if they so desire.
  6. 5 days after listing it here, if there is general approval or no objection, go ahead and create the new category and/or template following the format on Wikipedia:Stub. List the new stub type on the stub types list in an appropriate section. If consensus is not clear, or discussion is still ongoing, the proposal will remain open until consensus can be reached.
  7. If you wish to propose a stub type which does not currently have 60 articles that could use it, you may propose an upmerged template in a similar way. An upmerged template would feed into currently existing stub categories until such time that there are enough stubs for a separate stub category. At that point a category for it may be separately proposed.

DO NOT place a proposal here for any stub type which has already been created and is being discussed at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion. The proposal page is only for stub types that have not yet been created, and it is better to keep any discussion of such stub types in one place rather than splitting it between different pages. Wikipedia:Categories for discussion is the correct page for proposals to delete a stub type.

^ . Good number means about 60 articles or more, or 30 or more if it is the primary stub type of a WikiProject, though this figure may vary from case to case.

"Speedy creation"[edit]

A stub type may be proposed for "speedy creation" if it meets one of the following criteria:

  • S1 - the creation of a category for which an approved upmerged template already exists and is now in use on more than 60 articles.
  • S2 - the creation of an upmerged national-level template for a subject in which other such national-level templates currently exist (e.g., X-bio-stub, X-hist-stub, or X-geo-stub, where X is the name of an internationally widely recognised country) or other instances where a clearly established pattern of similar subtypes exists. The proposed topic may not be controversial in scope. Many templates qualifying for S2 are listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/To do/To create.

List speedy creation proposals in the same proposal listings as normal stub proposals below.

Proposals, August 2015[edit]

Please check how many articles qualify for a stub type before proposing it.

New Zealand transport[edit]

There are a lot of stubs relating to New Zealand transport which currently are just in larger parent categories. I'd like to propose the following:

These should all be speediable. Grutness...wha? 23:31, 26 August 2015 (UTC)

Support --Redrose64 (talk) 08:16, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

New Zealand/South Africa law[edit]

A {{NewZealand-law-stub}} and a {{NewZealand-case-law-stub}} both useful. Each of them should cover over to 100 articles, in which case a Category:New Zealand law stubs and a Category:New Zealand case law stubs should also be useful. A {{SouthAfrica-case-law-stub}} and equivalent Category:South African case law stubs also looks similarly useful. All should be speediable. Grutness...wha? 23:31, 26 August 2015 (UTC)

Split of {{Painting-stub}}[edit]

Hi all, long time no see... a suggestion about the currently overpopulated Category:Painting stubs: splitting paintings by century. Though I haven't done a thorough count, it looks likely that {{17C-painting-stub}}, {{18C-painting-stub}}, {{19C-painting-stub}}, and {{20C-painting-stub}} would easily make the threshold for separate categories, and if not they'd be useful as upmerged templates anyway. Other centuries could easily be split out in the same way. Grutness...wha? 09:10, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

Support - not a bad idea, at that. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:44, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

I've made the templates and started sorting... the 19th and 20th century ones have already reached threshold (and I'm just past C in the painting stubs cat... so I'm speedying Category:19th-century painting stubs and Category:20th-century painting stubs (uniform with Category:19th-century paintings, etc.) Grutness...wha? 02:21, 21 August 2015 (UTC)

Ditto Category:17th-century painting stubs. the fourth one (18th) doesn't look it'll quite reach threshold, but it will be close. Grutness...wha? 06:23, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

a couple more[edit]

{{15C-painting-stub}} and {{16C-painting-stub}} also look very useful, and should be speediable given the others already exist. Grutness...wha? 06:23, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

Hello, lately I have been sorting through Category:Cypriniformes stubs and I have come across a lot of articles that are in the Nemacheilidae family. At a rough guess I would say more than 200. This category is definitely needed so we can further reduce the size of Category:Cypriniformes stubs. TheEditor867 05:59, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

Proposals, July 2015[edit]

Propose creating {{Gov-bio-stub}} for other countries since Category:Government biography stubs already exists for biographical articles related to government. We already have the {{Law-bio-stub}}. Stanleytux (talk) 23:32, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

Home automation (smart home) technology is a rapidly growing business. As such, their are many articles about different home automation products, many of which are quite small. Below is a list of some articles that could use this template:

Also, some articles that the connected home category needs and will probably use this template include:

  • Goji Smart Lock
  • Haven Smart Lock
  • flic
  • Luna
  • Hello Sense
  • Niwa
  • Petnet
  • Catfi

Daylen (talk) 18:14, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

That's six articles (we don't count drafts or articles as yet unwritten - but even with those it would only come to 17). We would really prefer about 60, see WP:WSS/P#Proposing new stub types – procedure. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:40, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

There are many stub articles for Caucasian peoples (not all of whom are on this list); some are classified as European ethnic groups, some as Asian ethnic groups, some as just "ethnic group" stubs, some as "Russia" stubs, some as "ethno" stubs and some are not classified as stubs at all. I propose a specific stub for these peoples. МандичкаYO 😜 02:44, 9 July 2015 (UTC)

Proposals, June 2015[edit]

S2 - and, if there are 60 stubs, S1 as well. Although Category:African hospital stubs only has about 140 stubs, I'd estimate that around 40-50 of them seem to be in RSA. Category:South African building and structure stubs is closing in on 300 stubs, so I wouldn't be surprised if it'll need a split at some date in the not-too-distant future. Grutness...wha? 04:28, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

Can add the category Category:South African hospital stubs too - Category:South African building and structure stubs contains at least 79 hospitals. Grutness...wha? 04:36, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

A split of Category:French castle stubs and creation of building stub templates by French department[edit]

My thinking is this. For some departments there might not ever be 60 chateaux, but for all departments there will definitely be over 60 buildings worthy of starting in each if you think churches, museums, theatres etc. I say create castle/chateaux templates by region and also create struct-stub templates for each department of France. Each chateau stub then can have two stub tags. One for castle in region and one for structure in department. Should there be more than 60 chateaux in one department, at a later date that can be stub sorted into castle in department. @Ser Amantio di Nicolao: and Rosiestep sound good?♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:30, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

Works for me if it works for you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 19:57, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
At the very least, a template would be useful. I wonder, though...might it not be better to create a stub tag for Category:Official historical monuments of France and go from there? This one I suspect will be a bit more limiting if we try to break down the castle category - with 27 regions I'm not sure we'll ever get to any subcats. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:21, 6 June 2015 (UTC)
@Ser Amantio di Nicolao: I think it's best we get the ball rolling on this. A start would be to split Category:Official historical monuments of France by department and region and stub sort at the same time I think.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:27, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
Agreed - that should be the way to proceed, I think. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 19:29, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

Create category equivalents for the above if reach 60. One problem is that many of the regions will merge on 1 January 2016. I think we can still use the traditional regions here though.

Presumably we'd split Category:French building and structure stubs by region and organize the department stub templates to feed into the regional category until 60 can be created in its own right. I really think long term we'd be better off creating the department structure templates now as our coverage of chateaux and churches in particular is going to increase significantly in coming years.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:33, 16 June 2015 (UTC)

So proposing these stubs categories if hit 60. if not then I'm sure we can create a few to make them worthwhile:

Support templates, categories as needed. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 13:29, 16 June 2015 (UTC)

Support templates, categories as needed as this helps get things better sorted and organized. After the renaming in January and July 2016 we can deal with new name issues if necessary. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:48, 16 June 2015 (UTC)

Proposals, May 2015[edit]

Proposing template {{RiversState-gov-stub}} to add all government-related stubs of Rivers State to Category:Nigerian government stubs. There's a possibility that government related articles of Rivers State will grow beyond 60 soon and will need a category of its own. Thanks. Stanleytux (talk) 14:42, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

Category:Baronet stubs[edit]

Category is oversized looks like splitting out the Baronetcy should bring it down to size.

this of for articles like Bagot baronets rather than the actual people who held the title. Waacstats (talk) 11:44, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

Speedy cats[edit]

Category:British Christian clergy stubs[edit]

Category is oversized, no existing split other than for bishops, I propose the following (categories only if the templates reach 60, split looks odd on catscan)

not sure which one to go for on the last two, clergy matches stub parent while minister matched perm cat. Waacstats (talk) 08:58, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

Maybe it's oversized because it contains non-notable people? I see a lot of priests in there below the level of bishop (or equivalent); do they all warrant articles? I was under the impression that regular parish priests needed to be notable in some other way to warrant an article (see WP:CLERGY) - in which case some other (non-religious) stub template would be more suitable. We didn't create an article for Libby Lane until her appointment as Bishop of Stockport was announced: as a parish priest, she was probably not notable; as a bishop, she's automatically notable (even if she hadn't been the first female C of E bishop). --Redrose64 (talk) 13:52, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

Split of Category:Lamiinae stubs[edit]

Uhhh! It's happening again! Lamiinae is skyrocketing upwards. I will also create the permanent categories too. To combat this, I propose the following:

{{Astathini-stub}}/ Category:Astathini stubs - 99 pages, not including the following:

{{Bacchisa-stub}}/ Category:Bacchisa stubs - 80 pages

{{Batocerini-stub}}/ Category:Batocerini stub - 141 pages

1920s silent Western film stubs[edit]

Category:1920s Western (genre) film stubs currently has 227 articles. However, 183 of those also have the stub tab {{silent-film-stub}}: [2]. I think that there should probably be a new stub tag that covers both, such as {{1920s-silent-Western-film-stub}}, since Category:Silent film stubs is in danger of becoming overpopulated again. There used to be a {{silent-Western-film-stub}}, but it was deleted in favor of the decade stub tags for Westerns. And most of the other silent film stub tags have retained the decade when being split, such as {{1910s-short-drama-film-stub}} and {{1920s-silent-drama-film-stub}}. Thoughts? Split of Category:Asia transport stubs by region[edit]

Category:Asia transport stubs has over 200 stubs, excluding subcats. I recommend splitting it by region (as defined by Category:Asia stubs, with the possible exception of the Caucasus region - we do have a transport stub category for at least one country in each region (Kazakhstan in Cerntral Asia, Japan in East Asia, Iran in the Middle East, India in South Asia‎, Vietnam in Southeast Asia). עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 10:51, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

Religious structures[edit]

I propose creating a category tree for Category:Religious building and structure stubs/{{reli-struct-stub}}, which would cover (among other things) churches, mosques and synagogues - which would include stub tags for any geographical region (e.g city, U.S. state) which has at least one of {{church-stub}}, {{mosque-stub}} and {{synagogue-stub}}, as well as any country with at least a dozen stubs where such a tag would be appropriate; and a category for any such area with at least 60 stubs for it (including any region with a Foo church stubs category). עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 12:57, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

Weak support for cats, but oppose templates. Not really sure why you'd want to make templates. Container categories, fine, but as things stand there are only two stubs which would take a NorthIsland-geo-stub and none which would take a SouthIsland-geo-stub. You'd also run into problems with Category:Southland, New Zealand geography stubs, since Southland includes both part of the South Island and all of Stewart Island, NZ's third-largest island. Grutness...wha? 12:51, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

National bridge-struct-stub types[edit]

I propose creating bridge-struct-stub tags for any country which currently doesn't have one (e.g {{Chile-bridge-struct-stub}}), upmerged to the continent-level bridge (structure) categories (create these where the category doesn't exist, if there are enough in the continent), as well as the national building and structure stub category and the transport(ation) stub category, if each one exists. While Category:Bridge (structure) stubs isn't oversized, some of the continent-level categories are, and where no such stub tag exists, these stubs have 3 stub tags on them. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 14:08, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

Italian painter stubs[edit]

1. I just created categories for Italian painter, 14th century birth stubs‎ and Italian painter, 20th century birth stubs‎

The Italian painters stub category has over 800 entries and creating subcategories may increase the speed of improvement. I say this meets either

S1 - the creation of a category for which an approved upmerged template already exists and is now in use on more than 60 articles.
S2 - the creation of an upmerged national-level template for a subject in which other such national-level templates currently exist

I think we should have a way to categorize "Disappearance of" type articles, since they are not appropriate for {{bio-stub}}. The code I have worked up is:

The reason I brought this here is that I can't find a suitable Icon to use. Something with two people, (like File:Crystal Clear app Login Manager.svg) involving a question mark, maybe? File:At a loss.svg is the only one even close.--Auric talk 14:09, 21 September 2014 (UTC)

Century stubs for short stories and short story collections[edit]

The Category:Novel stubs cat is very well diffused, but not the Category:Story stubs and Category:Short story collection stubs. I'm willing to help diffuse these cats. I suggest starting with centuries: 19thC-story-stub, 20thC-story-stub, 21stC-story-stub and their corresponding collection cats 19thC-story-collection-stub, 20thC-story-collection-stub, and 21stC-story-collection-stub. We can later add decade stubs as we see fit. Thanks, Aristophanes68 (talk) 23:14, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

Most of the entries in Category:Play stubs are plays whose dates are not readily available. But most of the ancient and medieval play-stub articles do have dates listed, but they have no category to sort into because we have no cats for anything before the 15th century--see Category:Pre-18th-century play stubs for the available options. There aren't a lot of these articles, but it seems odd to have no other place to put them, given how many other time-based play-stub cats we do have. Therefore I propose we create an "early-play-stub" template that would cover all the pre-12thC play stubs and that would be placed in the pre-18th-century category. Thanks, Aristophanes68 (talk) 21:16, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

Missing Decade-Play-Stub Cats[edit]

Under the S2 criteria, I propose creating Category:1900s play stubs (35 articles), Category:1910s play stubs (37 articles), Category:1940s play stubs (50 articles), Category:1950s play stubs (58 articles), and Category:2010s play stubs (53 articles). I believe that the decade-categorization is sufficiently established that it should not matter how many stubs are in these categories and that filling in the missing decades is more important. Also, I half-created the 2010s play stub cat before I realized that they needed to be requested here; it's still up, but not listed in any stub cats yet. Sorry! Aristophanes68 (talk) 02:59, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

Speedy create stub tags, create categories where the stub tags are used on enough articles. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 19:58, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
I'm not sure I know what you mean. The stub tags exist, but they don't have matching categories yet, so they're all lumped together in Category:20th-century play stubs, etc. Are you saying create new stubs, or new cats? Aristophanes68 (talk) 20:21, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
I didn't know the tags existed. Try using them on existing stubs; any btag which is used on 60 stubs can get its own category. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 03:20, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
I've been doing that with Category:Play stubs and have dramatically reduced the number of stubs in that catch-all category. As you can see from the numbers above, the 1950s stubs are just under 60, and the 1940s are close behind. Aristophanes68 (talk) 21:08, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

There are at least 100 articles in the current Category:Wisconsin stubs which are biographies. Additionally, there is the daughter category Category:Wisconsin politician stubs, with four daughter categories of its own, and containing over 400 articles. I believe this may be an S2, but am not sufficiently familiar with this area of Wikipedia to say. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:32, 13 July 2014 (UTC)--Orange Mike | Talk 18:32, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

Support but create {{Wisconsin-bio-stub}} too: the threshold for stub templates is lower than for stub cats, so if a cat is justifiable, the template must be as well. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:15, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
Not sure - how many of these 100 people are notable due to anything related to Wisconsin and are not politicians? Politicians in the US are always state-level, with the exception of candidates to become President or Vice President - and these usually had previous political roles. Any other person, though, is usually just some notable person who happens to have lived there - not enough to have them stub-tagged for it. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 13:00, 14 July 2014 (UTC)
Owners and founders of local busiinesses; ditto local sports teams; chancellors of major universities; heads of Wisconsin-based religious bodies -- need I go on? --Orange Mike | Talk 03:46, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
Support with caution. Please only populate with people important for their impact on Wisconsin. For instance, the article on Augustin Langlade claims that his trading post helped establish what later became Green Bay, WI. But really -- Americans move around so much that, unless the person truly impacted the state in some way, there's no reason to tag them specific to the state. That all being said, precedent had already been set with other states (e.g. {{Texas-bio-stub}}). Dawynn (talk) 11:22, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

Split of Category:Romantic drama film stubs[edit]

Propose the following tags to add year of release and reduce double-tagging of film articles:

Dawynn (talk) 13:27, 14 May 2014 (UTC)

  • Weak oppose. An examination of all the articles in Category:Romantic drama film stubs shows that not all of these templates are necessary. Yes, sometimes stub categories need to be broken down by decade because of size, and the 1910s and 1990s templates might have enough articles to warrant their own categories. But per WP:STUB, it is unnecessary to create a stub tag to indicate decade of release if 1) there aren't enough articles using it to meet the threshold for a stub category, and 2) all the articles involved already have a genre stub tag that is sufficient to cover the subject's main notability. Fortdj33 (talk) 13:56, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
  • I ran some quick catscans with results posted above. I only looked at movies from the specific parent categories. As noted above, the romantic drama category is obviously undersorted. Dawynn (talk) 15:05, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
I still can't advocate creating stub templates to break down this category by decade, unless there are enough articles for those templates to have their own categories. Adding {{1960s-romantic-drama-film-stub}} to only 16 articles, would not serve any purpose that {{romantic-drama-film-stub}} doesn't already serve. Fortdj33 (talk) 15:27, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
Granted -- this would fall under instruction 7 above. These would be upmerged , exploratory templates, upmerging to both Category:Romantic drama film stubs and the appropriate decade category (e.g. Category:1990s film stubs) while we get a better idea of whether we can find the appropriate numbers for a full category. Meanwhile, it would help any editors who have expertise of a particular decade of film to find these articles, rather than assuming that all movie viewers have equal interest in all of cinema history. Finally, this would help to succinctly tag articles with a single tag indicating both year of release and genre for these films. Dawynn (talk) 16:40, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
There may be specific projects for film genres and films from certain countries, but it is naive to believe that there are editors "who have expertise of a particular decade" for films. The only reason to break down a film category by decade, is because it is too large and needs to be divided into sub-categories. That is not the case here, so most of these templates are unnecessary, because they will all still feed into the same category. Fortdj33 (talk) 17:04, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
I will grant that "expertise" was a poor choose of words. But I would guess that users are probably more familiar with particular decades rather than all of cinema history. For myself, I have only rarely watched films older than about 1980. I would be more familiar with films in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, and thus more inclined to edit those films rather than all films from any given time period, just because they fit a certain genre. I see a benefit in sorting by genre, but I don't understand the reluctance to sort by decade when it can be so beneficial toward helping users find film articles they want to edit. Category:1930s British film stubs splitting[edit]

Hi there. Since this category has over 800 articles, I suggest splitting this category by year. A quick search in the category reveals:

Category:1931 British film stubs [2] 65

Category:1932 British film stubs [3] 73

Category:1933 British film stubs [4] 89

Category:1934 British film stubs [5] 91

Category:1935 British film stubs [6] 88

Category:1936 British film stubs [7] 130

Category:1937 British film stubs [8] 114

Category:1938 British film stubs [9] 74

I also wish to propose an upmerged template for the following years:

Category:1930 British film stubs [1] 53

Category:1939 British film stubs [10] 50

With these categories, the backlog for this category would be greatly reduced. MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 20:18, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

Do we have any existing stub cats or templates that drill down to a specific year? How about subdividing by genre instead? That way, they could be subcats of e.g. Category:1930s comedy film stubs, etc. --Redrose64 (talk) 22:35, 17 April 2014 (UTC)
That could work. If splitting by genres works better, than I'll support that decision instead. MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 02:51, 18 April 2014 (UTC)

Category:New Zealand people stubs[edit]

Wonder if anyone here remembers me after all this time...

{{NewZealand-reli-bio-stub}} is now used on some 70 articles, and there are a heap more simply marked with {{NewZealand-bio-stub}} which could use it too. Enough for a Category:New Zealand religious biography stubs, I'd say.

If you're looking for further ways to split that oversized bio category, I'd think a {{NewZealand-crime-bio-stub}} would float - there seem to be quite a lot of police officers, prison staff, judges, and criminals in the bio category.

Also - and this is a far trickier one - you could remove a couple of hundred of the NZ bio-stubs in one fell swoop by making some form of Maori tribal leader stub. {{Māori-bio-stub}} is a bit too general, but perhaps {{Māori-leader-stub}} (with a redirect without the macron) would be very useful. Unfortunately, there's no equivalent permcat (Category:Tohunga is too specific), and Māori are divided primarily by their iwi (tribes). Any suggestions? Some present stubs I would re-categorize:

Future Airborne Capability Environment
AIDS (aeronautics)
Built-in test equipment
Flight computer
Flight information display system
Operational display system

Avant-garde and experimental films template[edit]

Category already exists with 100+ entries, but there's no stub-type (, which essentially leaves out a whole continent of cinema. Doubly necessary since Wikipedia is so weak on this topic, and a lot of stubs exist (Symphonie diagonale, As I Was Moving Ahead Occasionally I Saw Brief Glimpses of Beauty), even on the most important films, like Dog Star Man (!!) and one which I just had to create, Tom, Tom, the Piper's Son (film). There are also thousands of notable films that don't even have stubs yet, so it definitely crosses the "good number" threshold... Tothebarricades (talk) 01:26, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

  • Oppose - only 31 transclusions, not the stub category for a WikiProject. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 13:44, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
  • Weak oppose - It could, potentially, be a stub category for the Unitarian Universalism work group, but there is already a stub category for Category:Unitarian Universalism stubs which has only 34 articles. I don't know how many additional articles might be creatable based on the list at Wikipedia:WikiProject Religion/Unitarian Universalism work group/Encyclopedic articles, because it doesn't differentiate between Unitarian, Universalism, and Unitarian Universalism, but I think it might make more sense to create some of the missing articles relevant to universalism first. John Carter (talk) 22:20, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
  • There has been a wrench thrown into this proposal by User:Fadesga. Fadesga has removed {{Universalism-stub}} from the Universalist related biography subs that I had put it on and created {{Universalism-bio-stub}} and put it on the Universalist related biography subs instead. Their rationale for this change is this; "the Category:Religion stubs is overpopulated, while the Category:Religious biography stubs is underpopulated". Now {{Universalism-stub}} is only used on 4 stubs. I wonder how this will impact this proposal? --Devin Murphy (talk) 21:47, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
  • A different proposal. I have been looking at these stub templates, that seem to be related to each other:
  • {{UnitarianUniversalism-stub}} with 36 stubs (and they have their own, too small, stub category),
  • {{Unitarianism-stub}} with 25 stubs (and they also have their own, too small, stub category)
  • {{Universalism-stub}} + the directly related {{Universalism-bio-stub}}, together there are 32 stubs (and Devin Murphy is proposing a category).
My proposal is somehow different. Given the fact that there are already two underpopulated categories, I am thinking about some kind of redistribution. (Further looking at other related categories, I see that there is an existing {{Unitarian, Universalist and Unitarian Universalist topics}}). Instead of having each template a separate category, there could be an "umbrella" stub category taking up all of them; or an alternative, using transcluded templates:
My 2 cents... --Fadesga (talk) 12:03, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
  • Category:Universalism stubs would be under my proposal a subcategory of Category:Universalism. I am proposing that all articles marked {{Universalism-stub}} and {{Universalism-bio-stub}} be put into this new category. I am making this proposal as a way to list all the Universalisim stub artistic separately from the Unitarian Universalism ones in the same manner as is done with the Unitarianism subs using Category:Unitarianism stubs. I feel this is a good thing to do as it helps folks who would like to work on only one of these arias and not all three of them to have an easy way to do this. I am open though to alliterative ways to achieve this. --Devin Murphy (talk) 17:34, 29 June 2013 (UTC)

Languages spoken by country stubs[edit]

Hi fellow Wikipedians. I am looking at the Category:Nigeria stubs. It looks like there are too many language-related stubs in each of them. I have just created the submerged template {{Nigeria-lang-stub}} which would eventually help de-populate the already big Category:Nigeria stubs. So, my proposal is to create a Category:Language stubs by country, which would include all eventual country-specific language stub categories. What do you say? Regards, --Fadesga (talk) 18:17, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

Do not support. In this case, consider this one vote. I'm frankly concerned about how to interpret "language spoken in Nigeria". I'll use an example from my experience: English is the only official language in the USA. But many companies hire people that speak fluent Spanish, because of the need to communicate with immigrants from Central and South America. Because Spanish has become so prevalent in the US, I could approve an argument that Spanish is spoken in the USA. But, take it a step further. There are conclaves of many different language groups especially in larger cities. Is it fair to say that Chinese or Korean is a language spoken in the USA just because a few neighborhoods might retain the language of their homeland? Do we say that French is "spoken" in the US, just because a large number of schools teach French classes, even though the language is not prevalently used in day-to-day activities? Thus, I find it dangerous first to say what languages are or are not "spoken" in a given country.
Beyond this, I have my doubts that we'll be able to create a need for a "Language stubs by country". Consider: How many countries really have more than 60 languages prevalently in use? For each of those, how many of the languages would be a) documented but b) documented only by stub articles on this English wikipedia? Dawynn (talk) 14:00, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
Just looking at the articles tagged with {{Nigeria-stub}}, and see that there are a lot of language articles for Nigeria. Please wait for other opinions. My naïveté may not be the last word on this subject. Dawynn (talk) 14:08, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
