Welcome to WikiProject American television. Several Wikipedians have formed this collaboration resource and group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of American television and the of information and articles on this topic. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions and various resources; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians interested in the topic. If you would like to help, please join the project, inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list below.

  • Standardize coverage of the American television series, networks and stations
  • Improve lower-quality articles to Good or Featured status.
  • Maintain and further improve articles already of high-quality.


  • This purpose of this project is to standardize the coverage of American television series, channels, networks and stations within Wikipedia. This includes deciding how pages should be formatted, which pages should and should not be created, designing templates, etc. This project is not yet completely defined, so feel free to make suggestions on the talk page.



The following is the guidelines which tries to help editors improve the quality of Wikipedia's articles within scope of American television related articles. For Wikipedia guidelines regarding how to write about fiction in general, see Wikipedia:Notability (fiction) and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (writing about fiction). These are only guidelines and may be altered depending on current Wikipolicies and/or project participant consensus.

Tagging and Assessment[edit]

Any articles that are within the scope of this project should be tagged with {{WikiProject United States|class=|importance=|USTV=yes|USTV-importance=}} banner. The resulting article ratings are used within the project to help in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work. They also play a role in the WP:1.0 program, which the WikiProject uses to help automate some of the assessing process.

  • The template should be placed on the talk pages of relevant articles to put them under the project's radar. It looks like this:

The assessment is done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{WikiProject Television}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in the appropriate sub-categories of Category:American television articles by quality.
