WikiChem has been meeting at channel #wikichem on freenode every Tuesday, 1600H UTC. All are welcome, and logs are published after each meeting regularly. In order to participate, you will need to download an IRC client such as ChatZilla. For more information, please contact Walkerma (talk · contribs).

Apart from this, all are welcome to drop by #wikichem for a discussion. Beetstra (talk · contribs), Physchim62 (talk · contribs) and Rifleman_82 (talk · contribs) can often be found there. You can approach them for any information.

Quickstart guide[edit]

Go to, type in your desired username (preferably the same as your Wikipedia one), and #wikichem.

For more clients and information on IRC, see Wikipedia:IRC.

Past meetings[edit]

/14 September 2010[edit]

Anyone around here? If so, let's find a time to meet! Scientific29 (talk) 04:07, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

I'm here, I'm coming back; I'm one of the most actives in Spanish Wikipedia. Now, I'm trying to make reaction diagrams language independent, but I have some limitations due to captions. I'll be online in channel on Tuesdays at 16h-17h GMT.--Omegakent (talk) 02:29, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

OK, let's try to meet up next Tuesday 1600 UTC (1800 CEST, just to remind myself) Physchim62 (talk) 02:48, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
Sounds good! I'll be there too! It's about time... Walkerma (talk) 04:00, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
I will be in school then, would a later (past 1900) or earlier (before 700) work for anyone? Scientific29 (talk) 11:02, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
I can't do before 0700 UTC, but I can manage a later time in the European evening. Physchim62 (talk) 14:37, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
I'm a bit confused by everything - but I'll be on IRC at 1600h UTC, which corresponds to noon in US EDT. If Scientific29 wants to talk later, can he/she suggest a time? Thanks, Walkerma (talk) 14:20, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
I'll be there (I'm there already!) and logging. Physchim62 (talk) 14:52, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
Sorry I couldn't make it! How did the meeting go? Who was there? Scientific29 (talk) 19:34, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────It went well: myself, Walkerma and Rifleman 82 there. I've posted the log (edited to remove rude comments and most of the personal chit-chat!), and I'll do a summary in a moment. Physchim62 (talk) 06:04, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Summary of discussion[edit]

  • Walkerma presented ChemSpider Education (CSE), which is currently in the early stages of development
    • considerable overlap with Wikiversity and possibilities for collaboration with WMF projects
    • copyright licensing for CSE has not been decided; Physchim62 mentioned that many in the "free science" community are opposed to share-alike clauses
  • Physchim62 presented the new data pages on WikiChem
    • felt to be a Good Idea, could be used on Wikiversity for example
  • Comments from Organic Syntheses discussed
    • impractical to use ACS style for Org. Synth. references, as this would be different to the style for other references
    • use of {{OrgSynth}} should be strongly encouraged
    • look at the possibility of modifying {{OrgSynth}} to work in the same way as {{cite doi}}
  • Physchim62 presented the latest news from the IUPAC advisory committee on nomenclature
    • the revised Blue Book, with preferred IUPAC names for organic compounds, is still under review and will not now be published before 2011
    • a summary of the principles of IUPAC nomenclature will (probably) be published at the end of 2010

/5 October 2010[edit]

Will we be meeting today? I'll aim to be on IRC at 1600 UTC (noon US EDT). Sorry I missed last week. Walkerma (talk) 04:11, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

I am there, though busy maybe. Would be good to get together again, there is work to be done. --Dirk Beetstra T C 09:07, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, changing to may be around. --Dirk Beetstra T C 09:23, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
I should be around. Physchim62 (talk) 09:20, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

Future Meetings?[edit]

/9 November 2010[edit]

If anyone's around today at 1600h UTC (11am US Eastern Time), I'd like to try discussing this. Please also comment on that page. Walkerma (talk) 06:28, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

Might be around then (not sure). I commented there as well. --Dirk Beetstra T C 08:55, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
