Beggars in China or Begging in China[edit]I was going to start on article on this topic and wondering if anyone was located in China and might be willing to take some pictures of beggars. Not sure if this would be disrespectful or not though, so this would have to be addressed first. I was particularly looking for the following: Mothers using or having kids with them to beg, kids by themselves with signs writing about their troubles, injured or amputee beggars, people performing music or other things to get money, beggars who are faking injury to get sympathy (in wheelchairs or on crutches) and any other general beggar pictures or homeless/mentally ill people. I know this sounds like a strange request but I think it's an important topic and a picture tells a thousand words right...Anyone in China currently and willing to help out? Dounai (talk) 19:45, 3 June 2012 (UTC) Anyone in Guiyang, Guizhou? Last time I was there there were hundreds of people sleeping under awnings side by side..Apparently they were migrant workers looking for work but some were also homeless or beggars.Dounai (talk) 19:58, 3 June 2012 (UTC) I'd be interested in helping out with the articles if this is ok with you. I had this idea several years ago but never followed through with it. I can't help with pictures but can help with research and writing if you'd like. Let me know because it's a very depressing phenomena in China that needs to be talked about more. Thanks and look forward to talking more with you.Notgoingtotellyou (talk) 18:14, 24 December 2015 (UTC) Moving categories[edit]Hi, I feels that the some of the articles within Category:Chinese television series should move to Category:Television series set in China due to various users' mistakes of seeing the former as a category of setting. Please help cleaning up the category.--NeoBatfreak (talk) 19:28, 19 March 2013 (UTC) Dai River (China)[edit]The encyclopedia lacked an article on this river, and I'm lazy (XD) so I shall request this article here. Xu Shiying[edit]There's an article on Chinese political leader Xu Shiying that has been mostly blank since it was first created in May 2012. The article is bothering me as he appears to be quite significant, but I don't have much knowledge on this topic. I've added the WikiProject China banner to it -- I was wondering if someone expand the article, perhaps by translating the Chinese language version of the same article (http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/許世英)? Thanks! The Giant Purple Platypus (talk) 10:23, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
Notable in Chinese-language entertainment[edit]These pages need to be created at some point:
Yangpu District, Shanghai[edit]Some issues mentioned here with some edits to the district's recent history. Some could use sourcing and others need to be reformatted. We could also use a short gloss on the major waterways in the area besides the Huangpu Ship Canal and Yangshupu/Yangtzepoo Creek. — LlywelynII 05:43, 15 January 2015 (UTC) Dunhuang Research Academy[edit]Dunhuang Research Academy - discussed in article in The New York Times June 16, 2015. "which has managed the Mogao Caves for the central government since 1944, even before the Communists took power". [1] Japan is China[edit]Japan is China is an English-language stereotype that conflates Japan and China. Erjingtiao chili peppers[edit]Hi! Could someone make an article about èrjīngtiáo làjiāo (simplified Chinese: 二荆条辣椒; traditional Chinese: 二荆條乾辣椒)? I would really love to know more and write about this variety of Sichuan chili peppers myself, but English sources are hard to find. Commons has a category (commons:Category:Erjingtiao chili), and it would also be really nice if someone could post a photo of fresh erjingtiao chili peppers. Thank you! --Gomuragi (talk) 05:27, 20 September 2018 (UTC) |
Departments[edit]
Members who do the meta work may enlist in various departments. Tasks include working on the project, maintaining the project pages and related portals, assessing articles, participating in peer reviews, managing the consensus within the project. The following is a list of departments within the WikiProject. WikiProject Members can contribute content as a member of Workgroups as well.
Assessment[edit]
The assessment department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's China-related articles. While much of the work is done in conjunction with the WP:1.0 program, the article ratings are also used within the project itself to aid in recognising excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work.
The ratings are done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{WPCHINA}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in a set of categories that serves as the basis for an automatically generated worklist.
Cartography[edit]
The cartography department aims to create a collection of high-quality maps for use in China-related articles. The department gathers existing public domain and free-license maps as well as creating new ones from other materials where no suitable maps can be found. All project members are welcome to request additional maps that may be needed for particular articles from the department.
Collaboration[edit]
- The Chinese Collaboration of the Week has been renamed Chinese Collaboration of the Month and has been reactivated as of July 2011
The Chinese Collaboration of the Month seeks to identify particular articles that would benefit from a significant collaborative effort. Every month from July 25 2011, a single article is selected as the focus, and the project attempts to improve it, potentially to Good or Featured Article standards.
Any articles dealing with some aspect of China (except for current featured articles and featured article candidates) are eligible, and everyone is invited to nominate articles.
Peer review[edit]
The peer review department conducts peer reviews of China-related articles on request; this helps to obtain ideas for further improvement by having contributors who may not have previously worked on particular articles examine them. Project members are invited to submit articles to the department in lieu of using the generic peer review process.

- Review requested for Nanking Massacre, Battle of Nanking, Nanking Massacre controversy, Alleged fabrication of the Nanking Massacre. - The articles on Nanking Massacre and Battle of Nanking have been expanded and tone has been made somewhat more NPOV. The other two articles are new. --Richard (talk) 17:04, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
Translation[edit]
The translation department of the Chinese WikiProject aims to utilize high-quality non-English material related to China for the goals of the project. This includes both translating articles from and to other-language Wikipedias as well as assisting contributors with non-English sources.

Adopt an article[edit]
Similar to the Collaboration of the week, but on a smaller scale, you might want to "adopt" an article. This would involve doing the research, writing, and picture-taking (if possible) for either a non-existent article or a stub. Of course, everyone else can still edit an adopted article, and you can work on other things too, but the idea is to find a focus for a while, to try and build up the number of quality articles the Project has produced.
