Scope edit
What is covered in this project

Many sources have different interpretations of what constitutes as "Latin" in sound or origin making the definition ambiguous. For the sake of simplicity, the project will the use term "Latin music" as defined by the Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (LARAS), that is, music in Spanish and Portuguese. The guidelines below further elaborate what is covered by this project:

Artists, bands, and musicians To be covered by Latin music project, artists and bands must record either in Spanish or Portuguese (having approximately 50% of their total recordings in either language) and must have their recordings released in the following regions listed below. Artists and bands who records in an indigenous language or another dialect from Latin America or the Iberian Peninsula are also allowed. Artists and bands who frequently crossover to the Latin market by performing in Spanish or Portuguese may be covered by the project as well. Musicians who are performers of any Latin instrument from Ibero-America (including Spain and Portugal) are included in this project.

Geographical Geographically, this project focuses on any music in Spanish and Portuguese from or commercially released in Latin America, Spain, and to a small extent, Portugal. The project scope also encompasses the Latin market in the United States. Recordings of indigenous languages and other dialects from Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula are accepted by the project scope as well.

Recordings:

  • Albums must have at least 50% of its songs or sound recordings in Spanish or Portuguese. Spanish- and Portuguese-language versions of an album recorded in another language are allowed to be tagged in the project if it meets WP:NALBUMS.
  • For song recordings, the project covers songs recorded either in Spanish (including Spanglish songs) or Portuguese. Spanish and Portuguese-language versions of a single released for the Latin market are also covered by the project as long as they meet WP:NSONGS. Ideally, a song should have nearly 50% of its lyrics in Spanish or Portuguese.
  • Recordings with indigenous languages and dialects from Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula such as Basque, Catalan, Nahuatl, Quechua, Galician, Valencian, and Mayan are accepted by the project as well.
  • For instrumental music, the project includes any recording containing works done by an Ibero-American composer as well as recordings interpreted by an Ibero-American musician.
