WikiProject Ontario

This WikiProject was formed to foster better articles on the Province of Ontario with a spirit of cooperation. This page and its subpages contain suggestions on formatting and layout of articles as well as to do lists for Ontarians.

This project covers the creation and editing of articles related to Ontario, its cities, counties, geography, transportation, culture, history, and so on. It aims to expand Wikipedia's resources on Ontario in a fair and accurate manner.

Geography

This project should aim to provide an article about every locality in Ontario. Also, it should aim to provide feature-quality articles on the following cities:

Moreover, in-depth coverage of Ontario physical and political geography is desirable. All national and provincial parks, important geophysical areas, and geopolitical regions of value should have high-quality articles. For example:

There should also be some emphasis on creating/expanding articles about Northern Ontario and Eastern Ontario topics as well as economics/socio-economics and all of the above for:

Culture

Describing the cultural history and development of Ontario, as well as uniquely Ontarian facets of culture, is important to providing comprehensive coverage of Ontario. To include are:

  • Festivals, parades etc.
  • Unique events and colleges
  • Museums of Ontario

Accessibility

A secondary aspect of this project is to ensure that some accessibility issues are solved. For example, an effort should be made to deliver spoken-word versions for articles with high visibility, such as Toronto.

  • All settlements in Ontario should use {{Infobox Settlement}}. This infobox provides a consistent look between the various types settlements in Ontario like Toronto and Windsor and to settlements in the other parts of Canada like Saskatoon, Montreal, St. John's, and Edmonton. The default "settlement_type" is city, but it can be changed to reflect any type of settlement, like counties, towns, villages, etc. {{Infobox Settlement}} also has a super imposable dot map feature that allows a map to be used with any settlement in Ontario.
