Editing Notes for Macedonian articles Editing Notes for Macedonian articles

Many articles relating to the Republic of Macedonia, the Macedonian language, Macedonians and Macedonian history and politics may be controversial. For this reason, please be extra careful when editing or creating articles.

Please be sure to:

  • Maintain civility at all times in your articles and comments. Using the article's discussion page to resolve disputes is a good way to ensure a good outcome. If a dispute escalates, alert an administrator, rather than allow the situation to degenerate into an edit war.
  • Avoid emotional arguments, statements about editors of other nationalities, name-calling, and anything that is not perceived as constructive, source-backed argument.
  • Please avoid lame edit wars about names. Check the naming conventions for Macedonia-related articles, about how and when to use plain "Macedonia" or "Republic of Macedonia" and related issues. Please note that all edits regarding the use or non-use of the name "Macedonia(n)" in any article are subject to a one-revert rule restriction, except edits whose effect is solely to implement these binding conventions. People who edit-war against them are likely to end up blocked. If in doubt, make use of the article's discussion page.

Remember, irrespective of your nationality, race, religion or star sign, your grouping will be judged by your conduct, so keep it nice! :-)

Styles Manual of Style

In historical articles, the past tense is strongly preferred. While history can be written in the present tense, the general audience of Wikipedia will usually expect the past tense on historical subjects and events. The present tense in English is only correctly used to describe past events in a work of fiction. This is referred to as the "historical past tense".

Remain as objective as possible. The point and ideal of Wikipedia is to create an neutral encyclopedic body of knowledge. Avoid using the first-person point of view (emphasizing the facts; not the editor). Explain the evidence (from the links and references) and explain the reasons of any conclusions.

Article names

Convention: Use the form most familiar to English speakers. Name pages in English and place the native transliteration on the first line of the article unless the native form is more commonly used in English than the anglicized form.

Transliteration

It is recommended that the contemporary Macedonian style of Romanization be used. This includes using letters not found in the English language such as: č, ǵ, ḱ, š and ž. When introducing a Macedonian name, a Cyrillic version and a transliterated version should be provided.

Infoboxes

A number of infoboxes can be used for history-related articles. These include {{Infobox revolution biography}} and {{Infobox Military Person}}.
