Welcome to the U2 Wikiproject Assessment department! [edit]

Welcome to the assessment department of WikiProject U2! This department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's U2 articles. While much of the work is done in conjunction with the WP:1.0 program, the article ratings are also used within the project itself to aid in recognising excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work.

The ratings are done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{WikiProject_U2}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in the appropriate sub-categories of Category:U2 articles by quality and Category:U2 articles by importance, which serve as the foundation for an automatically generated worklist.

Frequently asked questions[edit]

How can I get my article rated?
Please list it in the section for assessment requests below.
Who can assess articles?
Any member of WikiProject U2 is free to add—or change—the rating of an article.
What if I don't agree with a rating?
You can list it in the section for assessment requests below, and someone will take a look at it. Alternately, you can ask any member of the project to rate the article again.
Aren't the ratings subjective?
Yes, they are, but it's the best system we've been able to devise; if you have a better idea, please don't hesitate to let us know!

If you have any other questions not listed here, please feel free to ask them on the discussion page for this department.

Instructions[edit]

An article's assessment is generated from the class and importance parameters in the {{WikiProject U2}} project banner on its talk page:

{{WikiProject U2|small=
 |class=
  |auto=
  |b1=
  |b2=
  |b3=
  |b4=
  |b5=
  |b6=
 |importance=
 |attention=
 |needs-infobox=
 |needs-photo=
 |collaboration=
 |audio-file=
 |peer-review=
 |old-peer-review=
 |listas=
 |category=
}}

Template layout[edit]

small: Answer yes to make the template small and along the right side of the page (as opposed to at the top.)

class: The following values may be used for the class parameter:

auto: Answer yes if the class parameter is left blank.

b1 Referencing and citation: Answer yes if the article is suitably referenced, with inline citations where necessary.

importance: The following values may be used for the importance parameter:

The parameter is not used if an article's class is set to NA, Book, Category, Disambig, Image, Portal, Project, Redirect, or Template (adds Non-article pages to Category:NA-Class U2 articles; assessment is unnecessary.)

Quality scale[edit]

An article's quality assessment is generated from the class parameter in the {{WikiProject U2}} project banner on its talk page:

{{WikiProject U2|class=???}}

The following values may be used for the class parameter to describe the quality of the article (see Wikipedia:Quality scale for assessment criteria):

FA (for featured articles only; adds articles to Category:FA-Class U2 articles) Featured article FA
A (adds articles to Category:A-Class U2 articles) A-Class article A
GA (for good articles only; adds articles to Category:GA-Class U2 articles)  GA
B (adds articles to Category:B-Class U2 articles) B-Class article B
C (adds articles to Category:C-Class U2 articles) C-Class article C
Start (adds articles to Category:Start-Class U2 articles) Start-Class article Start
Stub (adds articles to Category:Stub-Class U2 articles) Stub-Class article Stub
FL (for featured lists only; adds articles to Category:FL-Class U2 articles) Featured list FL
List (adds articles to Category:List-Class U2 articles)  List

For pages that are not articles, the following values can also be used for the class parameter:

Category (for categories; adds pages to Category:Category-Class U2 articles) Category page Category
Disambig (for disambiguation pages; adds pages to Category:Disambig-Class U2 articles) Disambiguation page Disambig
File (for files; adds pages to Category:File-Class U2 articles)  File
Portal (for portal pages; adds pages to Category:Portal-Class U2 articles)  Portal
Project (for project pages; adds pages to Category:Project-Class U2 articles)  Project
Template (for templates; adds pages to Category:Template-Class U2 articles)  Template
NA (for any other pages where assessment is unnecessary; adds pages to Category:NA-Class U2 articles)  NA
??? (articles for which a valid class has not yet been provided are listed in Category:Unassessed U2 articles)  ???

Three levels, GA, FL, and FA are NOT assessments that can be assigned simply by a project member. These refer to external judgments of article quality made at WP:GA, WP:FL and WP:FA. If these tags are desired, and the article meets the criteria (for GA or FA), it must be nominated (for GA or FA) and await comments. See also the guideline on the English Wikipedia.

WikiProject article quality grading scheme

Importance scale[edit]

An article's importance assessment is generated from the importance parameter in the {{WikiProject U2}} project banner on its talk page:

{{WikiProject U2|importance=???}}

The following values may be used for the importance parameter to describe the relative importance of the article within the project:

Top (adds articles to Category:Top-importance U2 articles)  Top
High (adds articles to Category:High-importance U2 articles)  High
Mid (adds articles to Category:Mid-importance U2 articles)  Mid
Low (adds articles to Category:Low-importance U2 articles)  Low
NA (adds articles to Category:NA-importance U2 articles)  NA
??? (articles for which a valid importance rating has not yet been provided are listed in Category:Unknown-importance U2 articles  ???

The importance parameter should be assigned according to the importance scale below.

Requesting an assessment[edit]

Currently, any such requests should go direct to the U2 Project Noticeboard.

Requesting "GA" and "FA" nominations[edit]

The "GA" and "FA" labels should only be used on articles that have been reviewed and are currently designated as good articles or featured articles, respectively. The WikiProject bears ultimate responsibility for resolving disputes. (See Wikipedia:Good article nominations and Wikipedia:Featured article review)
