Fair use rationale for Image:Steam logo.png[edit]

Image:Steam logo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Done. It is listed under Wikipedia:Userboxes/Games/Video_games#Other. but feel free to move it to another section if you thing that one is not the best classification. - Ahunt (talk) 13:39, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I just finished my Minecraft userbox. Would you like to add it as well?
Wikitext userbox where used
{{User:Dargereldren/Userboxes/Minecraft}}

Userbox problem: Pizzazz required[edit]

Hi all,

I created a new userbox, seen below:

Pokémon BlackThis user enjoys playing Pokémon Black and White.W

The problem is, it's kinda plain. I think it would work better with sprites of Reshiram and Zekrom (possibly obtained from Bulbapedia) than with a mini boxart and a capital W. I've already brought this up at Talk:Pokémon Black and White. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

The Doctahedron, 15:50, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah my suggestion is to not use copyrighted images in user boxes as it violates US copyright law. Please see Wikipedia:USERBOX#Caution_about_image_use. - Ahunt (talk) 01:34, 28 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Standardization[edit]

I think this section of userboxes (Video Games) needs some dramatic standardization. I would much prefer to reference to a user box system in which it's clear what the source is. For example {{User:Scepia/PC gamer}}, taken from the Video Game systems (similar problem) to say that a user prefers to play games on a PC, but has source code that links to Scepia's user page, and not a template system.

What about VGS for Video Game System, VG for Video Game, then whatever extension for collections of similar items. EG: MMOPG, RPG for games, Atari, Intel, Form (laptop, desktop, calculator, etc) for systems. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jarod997 (talkcontribs)

I think you need to explain what you have in mind in a bit more detail! What would it look like?- Ahunt (talk) 18:17, 13 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps instead of userboxes being "hosted" by various users and in various types of directory/file structures, we create a type of naming structure to streamline the location of userboxes of various types. EG Programming Userboxes has a basic template and naming system. As to what the final result would look like, I am open to suggestions. {{Template VG MMORPG WoW}} for example - Video Game, Classification, Name. It's been a little while since I did some major userbox template editing/creating, perhaps {{Template VG|MMORPG|WoW}} would work to automatically create the groups and the grouping pages? (BTW, my apologies for not signing my previous note. :) ) Jarod (talk) 19:27, 14 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, okay, I see. I think that what you are talking about is big enough that this discussion should really happen at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Userboxes. In many ways what you are suggesting is similar to the User:UBX issues of some years ago (may want to review Wikipedia:Userbox migration). The key thing is to stay out of Wikipedia mainspace with userboxes. It is probably worth pointing out that you will never get all userboxes, or even any one type of them, out of individual userspace, people just make more, so in a way that is just a fact of life here.- Ahunt (talk) 19:39, 14 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

New Userbox[edit]

I made my minecraft userbox, awaiting approval
Code : User:Hans T.M/UB/Minecraft
(please look the picture too)

Hans T.M (talk) 08:57, 27 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It looks fine to me. My only question is on the image which says it is licenced under a Creative Commons licence, when my understanding is that the game is under the GPL. - Ahunt (talk) 11:32, 27 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your link to this page where the image is indeed licenced as CC 3.0, but I am not convinced that licence on that page is right. If the game is under GPL then the images should also be under GPL, unless they are specifically licenced otherwise. - Ahunt (talk) 22:54, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

UNDERTALE[edit]

Can someone make some Undertale userboxes? Thanks. WarriorFISH (talk) 01:23, 13 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I can do that for you, but it would help to have some more info on what you want proposed text or images that can be used? - Ahunt (talk) 02:00, 13 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, Ahunt, that would be fantastic! I realise that I've just continued a three-year-old thread, but it would be great if you could do one that had the red undertale heart on it... sorry for coming in so late. WikiMacaroons (talk) 12:01, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, I'm still around. Are you referring to the "Y" figure seen here? Any ideas on the wording you would like? - Ahunt (talk) 12:15, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for responding so quickly, Ahunt. I mean the red heart that you play as in battle like this one (but obviously higher quality). If you can think of something more referenc-ey that's fine, if not, "This User plays Undertale" will do nicely. Thank you very much! WikiMacaroons (talk) 08:20, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay here is a first try. I couldn't find the heart logo specifically, but did find the word mark. Let me know what changes you would like. - Ahunt (talk) 12:59, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Code Result
{{User:Ahunt/Undertale}}
This user plays Undertale.
Usage
Oh, that's brilliant, Ahunt. Couple of changes: Maybe move the logo away from the edge of the box and make the logo a bit higher quality? Like this. Thank you! WikiMacaroons (talk) 18:22, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, there you go!  Done - Ahunt (talk) 20:30, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much! That looks great, Ahunt! I shall put it in pride of place on my Userbox page! Thanks again! WikiMacaroons (talk) 06:59, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, any time! - Ahunt (talk) 12:14, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

My userbox?[edit]

Hello there, I made a cool user box and I want someone to please add it to the category. Can anyone please add it to the category? Also, this is what the userbox looks like:

This user enjoys playing video games.

Is my userbox good enough to be inside the category? Thanks!
