Per this discussion at Wikiproject Motorsport I recently created the page List of motorsport terminology. Designed primarily to combat jargon, feel free to drop by and add common motorsport terms (this is going to be a big list). Apterygial 05:03, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Photos[edit]

There is a very nice, freely-licensed set of photos from the recent race at Kyalami here. I have already posted this message at Talk:A1 Grand Prix, but I just realised I should have done it here as well.--Diniz(talk) 20:40, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GAN backlog reduction - Sports and recreation[edit]

As you may know, we currently have 400 good article nominations, with a large number of them being in the sports and recreation section. As such, the waiting time for this is especially long, much longer than it should be. As a result of this, I am asking each sports-related WikiProject to review two or three of these nominations. If this is abided by, then the backlog should be cleared quite quickly. Some projects nominate a lot but don't review, or vice-versa, and following this should help to provide a balance and make the waiting time much smaller so that our articles can actually get reviewed! Series Dead?[edit]

Is this series completely dead? The website's down and I can't find any evidence that the scheduled events are going ahead. I can find some refs indicating financial problems at the end of the last season, but plans to go ahead. Any one have a ref for a final death? EeepEeep (talk) 21:55, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ref for likely cancellation: [1] EeepEeep (talk) 04:16, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Without any doubt the 2009-'10 season won't go ahead. Whether A1GP can go ahead in the future is to be forseen but do not expect it. Quintinohthree (talk) 16:04, 18 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sports Notability[edit]

There is discussion ongoing at Wikipedia_talk:BIO#RFC:_WP:Athlete_Professional_Clause_Needs_Improvement debating possible changes to the WP:ATHLETE notability guideline. As a result, some have suggested using WP:NSPORT as an eventual replacement for WP:ATHLETE. Editing has begun at WP:NSPORT, please participate to help refine the notability guideline for the sports covered by this wikiproject. —Joshua Scott (LiberalFascist) 03:35, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A1GPs future along with this project[edit]

As far as I know A1GP is dead. Given that, whats the future of this project? Is it still active. With no new races, or drivers, or tracks, whats the status at this point. Is it safe to mark this project inactive or nominate it for closure? --Sabre ball t c 14:49, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There's two issues. Firstly, unlike WP:IROC which had reached a point where it was basically "done", I don't feel everything that could be done to cover A1GP's existence has been done (not every race article has been fleshed out, there's still a lot of prose that could be written on articles that are just stats, not every article for a driver who participated in A1GP describes their involvement, etc.), so there is work left to be done that WP:A1GP could help facilitate. However, due to the status of the series, nobody seems interested in doing this additional work, rendering the WikiProject largely meaningless. -Drdisque (talk) 15:51, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That was my thought exactly. I'm sure a lot of the A1GP articles could still use a lot of work, but without an active series I'm not sure enough people care enough to maintain the A1GP project. Do you object to perhaps marking the project semi-active? Test the waters; see how many (if any) complain. --Sabre ball t c 19:09, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal[edit]

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject X is live![edit]

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Popular pages report[edit]

We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Motorsport/taskforce/A1 Grand Prix/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Motorsport.

We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:

  • The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
  • The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
  • The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).

We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Motorsport, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.

Warm regards, the Community Tech Team 17:15, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject A1 Grand PrixWikipedia:WikiProject Motorsport/taskforce/A1 Grand Prix – I suggest that WP:WikiProject A1 Grand Prix be merged to WP:WikiProject Motorsport as a task force, cine the A1 Grand Prix racing circuit has been dead since 2010, and the WikiProject already documented all significant races teams and drivers from when the series was active, as the WikiProject existed during that time (series founded 2005, WPP founded 2005). The WikiProject has been inactive for many years (2012), so per other inactive WikiProjects, it should be merged as a taskforce to the greater WikiProject; as this is a topic with little chance of revival, all low activity collaboration work necessary can be handled as a taskforce, and additional needed community can be accessed via the main WikiProject in this configuration -- 65.94.169.56 (talk) 05:59, 22 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Survey[edit]

Feel free to state your position on the renaming proposal by beginning a new line in this section with *'''Support''' or *'''Oppose''', then sign your comment with ~~~~. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's policy on article titles.
  • Support I am the nominator -- 65.94.169.56 (talk) 05:59, 22 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support There is no need in the abandoned separate WikiProject for a disestablished series, it should be a part of the WP:MOTOR as a task force. Corvus tristis (talk) 06:21, 22 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
