Rookie lists

Why are all the 'list of's soft redirected to Wikia except List of Rookie Digimon (Part 1) and List of Rookie Digimon (Part 2)? Shiroi Hane (talk) 16:30, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

In addition, should all the redlinks on List of Digimon be redirects to somewhere? Shiroi Hane (talk) 16:49, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

The Rookies list was the only one that was actually AfD'ed, which is probably why a soft redirect hasn't been created for it. Not sure about the other red links. I guess we could just retarget them with [[wikia:digimon:. -- Ned Scott 02:16, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Ages

I've seen a fair amount of fighting over character ages so to clarify: are we using Japanese ages or American ages in the infoboxes? Shiroi Hane (talk) 15:58, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

IP address problems

For lack of a better title... this was originally a request to consider protecting certain Digimon articles, but I'm sort of hoping theres another possible solution to the problem. I keep finding this one particular IP address who keeps adding fan-made attacks to some of the articles (in particular, the Veemon article). Myself and a few others have tried reverting the edits and explaining that they can't be in the article, but the person keeps returning and putting his stuff back up (quite persistently, too - like within an hour after the revert). I don't think this person is listening, and I know this isn't the first time a situation like this has occurred. I'd like to know if there's anything else I can/should be doing other than just reverting and saying "please don't add fan-made things". Gagbumon (talk) 13:58, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Start warning the user with templates at Wikipedia:UTM. I suggest {{uw-nor1}} through {{uw-nor4}}, then when that's gone through, list at WP:AIV. x42bn6 Talk Mess 15:36, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
Huh... am I allowed to do that? I thought warnings were given by staff or something.... Anyway, would that really work? We're dealing with one of those IP number users who edit without logging in/registering an account so I don't think they have talk page to give those warnings on... Gagbumon (talk) 16:33, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
No, they're just given by whoever cares. Also, all users have talk pages, whether logged in or not.Not even Mr. Lister's Koromon survived intact. 17:35, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
And for what it's worth, the IP addresses seem static so they are likely to be a single user behind it. x42bn6 Talk Mess 20:51, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Remaining cleanup

A lot of great work has been done getting things set up on Digimon Wiki as an alternative outlet to a lot of our articles that we used to have here. There's still a bunch of lose ends to tie up here, including additional cleanup. While the status of WP:FICT is currently in flux, I think we should still figure out where we're going with these articles.

Just to throw it out there, here's what I think should/could happen: Merge main human characters with their Digimon partner articles. Even a raw merge wouldn't make a huge article. Minor characters go on lists (and we'd have to decide who's considered major/minor) for each season/game/whatever. I'm tempted to even say we should merge stuff like Digimon Sovereigns, though it's not completely clear where their main target should go.

Thoughts? other ideas? agree/disagree? -- Ned Scott 05:34, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Those sound like great ideas (maybe the Sovereigns could be merged to "Organizations in Digimon", or something). Sorry to say that I'm currently more invested in editing on Digimon Wiki instead, though, so I might not be available for whatever we all decide to do.Not even Mr. Lister's Koromon survived intact. 12:15, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
On a related note - is anyone else still here? Not even Mr. Lister's Koromon survived intact. 12:15, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
I assumed most members of the Project moved to the wikia, but I think a few of them are still around... Gagbumon (talk) 16:12, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm so glad that there is a WikiProject of Digimon...

...because all the Digimon articles I've seen are in such bad need of cleanup. I really don't see how any except a few Digimon are notable of their own articles. The Pokémon project doesn't have this problem; all the individual Pokémon except for five were merged into lists. Do you think this would be a good idea for Digimon? I mean, obviously they don't have numbers like Pokémon, but maybe they can be grouped some way.

Oh, and one more thing. The Digimon banner should have a class and importance function. Tezero (talk) 21:12, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

The only ones with their own articles are the really major characters (like Myotismon) and, within that, the Digidestined Digimon. There shouldn't be any problem of notability - lots of toys have even been made of these things. Not even Mr. Lister's Koromon survived intact. 21:52, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

A new Digimon article

An apparently new user recently created articles on Ogimon and Ogikarumon. It seems that these would best be served by being trans-wikied. I mentioned the idea on the new user's talk page, but in case they don't know how (and since the Wikia Digimon wiki doesn't seem to have an article yet on Ogimon..), I thought I would mention it here too. Cheers. --PeruvianLlama(spit) 08:26, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

They aren't in the Wikia because Ogimon and Ogikarumon aren't real Digimon. The articles the user made are simply Agumon and MetalGreymon's articles with the names changed. I'd recommend they just be deleted.Gagbumon (talk) 09:49, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
Ah, excellent - thanks for clearing up my ignorance. :) I'll see to it. Cheers. --PeruvianLlama(spit) 19:00, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Relationship to Pokemon

I came to the digimon page looking for some information on the relationship of digimon to pokemon. As an ignorant american the first thing I think when I hear "digimon" is "is that some kind of pokemon". the wiki page did not answer my question. Are digimon futuristic pokemon? Or is digimon an entirely different property? Who owns the digimon franchise?147.134.139.64 (talk) 19:55, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

From the Digimon article: Akiyoshi Hongo: Maker of the original Digimon concept.
"The entire first season of Digimon Adventure was dubbed in English (in order to compete with the 4Kids version of Pokémon which aired on the rival network GMA 7 on the same day and time),"Not even Mr. Lister's Koromon survived intact. 21:01, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

More IP address problems

Recently a dynamic IP address has been making edits to articles adding information that belongs in a different article or simply making odd changes to it. Leomon, Lopmon, and Gatomon have been hit frequently, though I have seen the user also modify Templates and the List of Digimon. I'm fairly certain it's the same user under a dynamic IP (or a collaborating group may be possible). I have attempted to inform the user of what they are doing wrong when I revert their changes, but I don't think they are even checking page histories to see my comments; I have attempted warning them, but the Dynamic IP address is foiling any success from that tactic. I asked for advice on how to go about this issue, and I was recommended to request semi-protection for these articles. However, I wanted to know how everyone else felt about this action before acting (if anyone is left to read this, that is)... that, and I'm a little afraid of acting on it myself - not sure why. Gagbumon (talk) 03:47, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

I think it's a Dynamic IP, anyway. Please correct me if I'm wrong - I just know it's different from the static one I was having problems with last year.Gagbumon (talk) 04:02, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

WP:ANIME proposed cleanup project

I would like to like to draw your attention to this proposal. Thank you, G.A.Stalk 06:53, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

If there are no objections to the above, I will shortly start major cleanup on the character articles as well as the character lists: this would involve:
  1. Removal of information which is only important to a small population of enthusiastic fans (including the removal of minor characters, i.e. once-off characters, etc) and the removal of original research.
  2. Removal of excessive fair use images (per WP:NFLISTS and Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria#3a—This would be done regardless of whether other cleanup is done).
  3. Reuse List of Digimon to create a single list of notable Digimon:
    1. Move Digimon from the existing character lists to List of Digimon.
    2. Remove minor entries from lists.
    3. Merge non-notable seperate Digimon articles.
  4. Merge characters to the appropriate List of characters.

Some questions and recommendations. Arsonal (talk) 07:25, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

  • Out of curiosity, how do you perceive the List of Digimon will look like once cleanup is complete? The classification of Digimon is somewhat less logical than Pokemon as it doesn't use a numbered order. Evolutions also tend to branch off. Would this list only include Digimon featured in the anime and not the card games?
  • On the subject of character lists, it would also probably be a good idea to rename lists like "List of characters in Digimon Adventure" into "List of Digimon Adventure" characters. Another recommendation for minor characters is to merge the family lists into the list item to the character they are related.
  1. At this stage, alphabetical sorting. At this time I am only considering including Digimon which have existing articles (i.e. those per the articles listed in the Digimon section here). In future – since the templates should be developed first – a sortable table might be useful (see meta:Help:Sorting#Colspan_workaround).
  2. Agreed on the naming. I also de-listifying family members and merging to the main characters.
G.A.Stalk 07:46, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
Sounds reasonable. Feel free to ask if you need help as I'm working on the episode lists right now. Arsonal (talk) 00:51, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
Having read through Talk:List of Digimon, it seems like it may not yet be appropriate to rewrite List of Digimon as proposed above, meaning that the new list requires a new name. Any suggestions? Or should I just create a new article in my userspace and then we decide on this later (or do a history merge at that stage)? G.A.Stalk 05:39, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
I feel like we need to separate Digimon between their appearances in the anime and their appearance in the rest of the Digimon franchise. We may be duplicating some content there, but it will make the list of characters cleaner and allow us to clean up List of Digimon independently. 16:26, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
