WP 1.0 bot announcement[edit]

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 02:56, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced living people articles bot[edit]

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Bahrain/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Bahrain/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 01:31, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Bahrain articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release[edit]

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Bahrain articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

WikiProject cleanup listing[edit]

I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). See the tool's wiki page, this project's listing in one big table or by categories and the index of WikiProjects. Svick (talk) 20:56, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

New Page on State Security Law[edit]

Hello everyone, I am new to wikipedia and recently posted an article on Bahrain's State Security Law. It has already been looped into the Wikiproject Bahrain and received kudos on the DYK page. I wanted to bring the article to everyone's attention on the project so that I could get your input/feedback on how to enhance the quality of the article. I appreciate your comments! WikiWomen's History Month[edit]

Hi everyone. March is Women's History Month and I'm hoping a few folks here at WP:Bahrain will have interest in putting on events (on and off wiki) related to women's roles in Bahrain's history, society and culture. We've created an event page on English Wikipedia (please translate!) and I hope you'll find the inspiration to participate. These events can take place off wiki, like edit-a-thons, or on wiki, such as themes and translations. Please visit the page here: WikiWomen's History Month. Thanks for your consideration and I look forward to seeing events take place! SarahStierch (talk) 21:43, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Misspelt article titles[edit]

Could someone look into the contributions of Sadadi as it seems like there are a lot of bin spelling mistakes. It could be malicious e.g. Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa is redirected to Isa ibn Ali Al Khalifa. This hasn't been corrected since it happened in 2006. Cheers, Jack (talk) 00:51, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

See also: Talk:King of Bahrain#ibn not bin. Jack (talk) 00:52, 4 February 2012 (UTC)
That just goes to show my ignorance. I hadn't read Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Arabic)#Names and now I feel like I've just wasted the last half hour! However, there does seem to be quite a bit of inconsistency between ibn/bin. Jack (talk) 01:00, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

Reviving the project[edit]

Hello,

Does anyone have an idea about how to revive this project? Mohamed CJ (talk) 09:06, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi. I tried that many months ago, but there is just not enough active heads at the moment to run this :( There are plenty of pages that need to be brought up to encyclopedic standards... Rehman 10:46, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
I think Lihaas, AliWiki and John Carter are active. We also have non-WikiProject contributors to Bahrain political articles such as: Billmarczak, Sitrawi86, Khazar2, MR.HJH, AKhani84 and Bromley86. Do you think we can revive the project if these contributors (or some of them) are committed to work together? Mohamed CJ (talk) 11:25, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
Anyone still around ? Droodkin (talk) 20:21, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Well I'm around, sort of. :) Rehman 04:51, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
So what's the plan ? :) I think we should start by setting the standards for the importance scale (low, mid, high and top). As well as the quality of the article (stub, start class. Droodkin (talk) 05:51, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
I'm around as well. Although I'm mostly interested in politics. Mohamed CJ (talk) 15:19, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
The best and I think easiest way to try to revive the project might be to get together some list of reference books which relate to the subject, and possibly other non-fiction sources as well. Getting the information about relevant reference books would allow people to know which articles might be most "important", which would be at least one indicator of where to place material first, and a list of other sources would allow a bit more ease in finding articles on what might be called "lesser" subjects. I can try to put together a list of topics given specific coverage in encyclopedias and the like, which would probably include most of the more important topics, as well as, maybe, some other nonfiction sources which could be used on those articles and any other they cover. John Carter (talk) 17:30, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
I just finished adding evaluation guides on the importance and quality of articles. Hopefully, this will lead to better organization of the articles in the future. Anyone like it ? :) Droodkin (talk) 18:08, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
It's good, but I might myself choose to adjust some of the importance ratings to more accurately reflect the "official" WP:1.0 language. Part of the problem I've ssen is that, for several countries, for instance, there are figures who are hugely important to the country, like F. W. de Klerk and Nelson Mandela for South Africa, as an example, which are basically required for any encyclopedia on the topic, but which aren't necessarily direct subarticles of the main article. Jesus may not be a direct subarticle of Christianity, either, but probably merits Top importance to Christianity. Maybe taking the language from the original 1.0 importance criteria would work better. John Carter (talk) 18:12, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
Done and noted. Hopefully, with a guide for organization, we can have articles correctly assessed (especially since there are a heck of a lot of stub articles!) Droodkin (talk) 18:33, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
I wouldn't worry to much about some of the stubs. Many of them are small settlements or people of minor notability at best. We may well find some references to them in some of the major sources on this subject, but it is probably in our best interests if we first work to bring the more significant articles to a high level of quality and completeness. Doing so would also allow us to better know what isn't already included somewhere about the less important articles elsewhere, and make it easier to develop them as well. John Carter (talk) 19:48, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
Right, we should at least get this page (Bahrain) a GA rating (and then hopefully FA!)Droodkin (talk) 14:32, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

Current priorities?[edit]

What are our current priorities to edit ? Do we have a goal ? Would be nice if someone would set an objective. Droodkin (talk) 14:49, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Well, I know I have a goal. That is to create, expand and update articles about the current uprising :) Mohamed CJ (talk) 18:07, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
Well, that's one part covered! I've been trying to assess all the articles (especially the unassessed ones) in the past hour or so. While you edit some of those pages, you're more than welcome to add the importance and class assessments to those. Keep up the good work, by the way :) Droodkin (talk) 18:49, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Alright, update report. What are our current priorities now ? The Bahrain article is good for a GA nomination, I think. I've been trying to find resources for a Literature in Bahrain page but with little success. --Droodkin (talk) 21:25, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

I'll be probably busy till the start of September, but I will still try to continue my work and offer help whenever it's needed. Mohamed CJ (talk) 06:37, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

The Bahrain Portal has been launched ![edit]

And frankly, we're a bit late on this one!

I've made the Portal:Bahrain portal and in this portal, we will assemble and arrange the Wikipedia:WikiProject Bahrain pages so that anyone who'd like to read about Bahrain, from villages like Nuwaidrat to the king, at ease. I just launched it so it's not exactly ready for use but in a day or two, it should be! --Droodkin (talk) 01:10, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

Okay, it's useable now. Hopefully, we'll be able to update it on a weekly basis. --Droodkin (talk) 14:47, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

2013 Bahrain Grand Prix[edit]

Bahraini uprising (2011–present) needs updating to cover the new protests concerning the 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix -- 70.24.250.103 (talk) 03:53, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

2013 Bahrain Grand Prix may need to be watched to see if protest information is removed to make it a "pure race article" instead of covering actual events surrounding it. -- 70.24.250.103 (talk) 09:18, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

Pictures[edit]

Looking at Commons I've noticed low number of pictures from Bahrain. Maybe someone knows the reason? Is there Freedom of Panorama or it's prohibited to publish pictures of streets, buildings or so? Ciacho5 (talk) 15:51, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal[edit]

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live![edit]

WikiProject X icon.svg

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

  • How can you help?
1.) Create or improve LGBT-related articles and showcase the results of your work here
2.) Upload photographs or other media related to LGBT culture and history, including pride events, and add images to relevant Wikipedia articles; feel free to create a subpage with a gallery of your images (see examples from last year)
3.) Contribute to an LGBT-related task force at another Wikimedia project (Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, Wikivoyage, etc.)

One does not need to identify as LGBT or any other gender or sexual minority to participate. This campaign is about adding accurate, reliable information to Wikipedia, plain and simple, and all are welcome!

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the campaign's main talk page.

Thanks, and happy editing!

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject[edit]

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background[edit]

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   07:26, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
