US Collaboration reactivated & Portal:United States starting next[edit]

Casliber recently posted a suggestion on the talk page for WikiProject United States about getting the US Wikipedians Collaboration page going again in an effort to build up articles for GA through FA class. See Wikipedia:U.S. Wikipedians' notice board/USCOTM. After several days of work from him the page is up and ready for action. A few candidates have already been added for you to vote on or you can submit one using the directions provided. If you are looking for inspiration here is a link to the most commonly viewed articles currently under the scope of Wikiproject United States. There are tons of good articles in the various US related projects as well so feel free to submit any article relating to US topics (not just those under the scope of WPUS). This noticeboard is intended for ‘’’All’’’ editors working on US subjects, not just those under WPUS.

The next item I intend to start updating is Portal:United States if anyone is interested in helping. Again this is not specific to WPUS and any help would be greatly appreciated to maximize visibility of US topics. The foundation has already been established its just a matter of updating the content with some new images, biographies and articles. Please let leave a comment on the Portals talk page or let me know if you have any questions or ideas. --Kumioko (talk) 19:04, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Proposal to add WikiProject Boston under WikiProject United States[edit]

Greetings, I am a member of WikiProject United States, it was recently suggested that WikiProject Boston might be inactive or semi active and it might be beneficial to include a project for it in the list of projects supported by WikiProject United States, which Kumioko have added some of the projects like WikiProject American television and WikiProject United States Government. After reviewing the project it appears that there have not been any active discussion on the talk page in some time and the only content updates appear to be simple maintenance so being supported by a larger project might be beneficial. This discussion is intended to start the process of determining if the project members are interested in the project being added to the projects supported by WikiProject United States. If have any thoughts, comments or questions, please let me know. JJ98 (Talk / Contributions) 10:09, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Since there doesn't seem to be any oppostition in the last 3 months I am going to go ahead and add this project to the WPUS supported projects list as well as to the WPUS template. --Kumioko (talk) 02:14, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Mohammed Saeed Harib[edit]

The biography of Mohammed Saeed Harib says he studied at North Eastern University in Boston.

But which school does that refer to? WhisperToMe (talk) 23:14, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

Historical photographs of public schools in Boston[edit]

I am helping User:Dominic with the upload of Historical photographs of public schools in Boston to Commons. All together I will upload ~350 historical images from Boston. I am already doing some basic categorization, but I am unfamiliar with the city, its geography and history, so I can use some help categorizing those images (and subcategories of Category:Public schools in Boston by name), geotagging them and adding them to articles. Thanks --Jarekt (talk) 03:59, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Proposal for United States A-Class review process[edit]

Discussion to remove the Automatically assessed logic from the WikiProject United States template[edit]

Greetings, there is a discussion regarding removal of the logic used to populate Automatically assessed article categories from Template:WikiProject United States. Most of the categories (over 220 Wikipedia wide) were deleted in February 2013 because they were empty. These categories were previously populated by a bot that hasn't run since 2011 and the categories aren't used. Removal of this uneeded/unused logic will greatly reduce the size and complexity of the WikiProject United States template. Any comments or questions are encouraged here. Kumioko (talk) 18:19, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Lest there is any confusion for people who don't speak the same language, the words "logic used to populate Automatically assessed article categories" refer to the feature that was supposed to allow this WikiProject's template to "inherit" class and importance ratings from other WikiProjects. Kumioko says that there are no longer any bots performing the function that formerly copied those ratings. --Orlady (talk) 23:17, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

College Basketball team navbox templates[edit]

Please join the discussion at the College Basketball Wikiproject for forming a consensus on the creation of a basic navigation template for college basketball teams. Neighborhoods in Boston update[edit]

Hello! I updated the Neighborhoods in Boston article to reflect the City of Boston's new neighborhood designations, but I'm not familiar enough with the sub-neighborhoods in "List of places and squares within neighborhood areas" to properly split Allston-Brighton and Dorchester & Mid Dorchester. I moved a few sub-neighborhoods from Dorchester to Mid Dorchester based on the City website's description, but can someone else check if any of the neighborhoods listed under Dorchester belong under Mid Dorchester? And can someone split up Allston & Brighton? Thanks! Nadhika99 (talk) 08:37, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

Overcrowded apartments and the death of Binland Lee[edit]

I wonder where this content belongs.... WhisperToMe (talk) 09:33, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

If there is enough coverage on the death itself, especially if it causes the City of Boston to make changes and/or there is significant coverage, one can write the Death of Binland Lee WhisperToMe (talk) 09:56, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

If there is a place to write about the fire death of Binland Lee, please mention her Chinese name (with Chinese Americans we mention their Chinese names: Andrew Lih, Amy Chua, etc.

"波士頓大學華裔女學生李冰蘭(Binland Lee,譯音)28日因住處火災不幸喪生後,"
So based on this (See the three characters before "Binland Lee" is named in English) the first mention of her name should say:
  • Binland Lee (T: 李冰蘭, S:李冰兰, P: Lǐ Bīnglán) - T for traditional Chinese, S for Simplified, P for Pinyin

WhisperToMe (talk) 09:42, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

There is another article that uses different Chinese characters:

  • Binland Lee (C: 李冰凌, P: Lǐ Bīnglíng) -- C is because it's written the same in traditional and simplified

However "Binlan" seems to be more common in the articles... And Sina uses that too

Photo requests of the "Good Will Hunting" bench for Robin Williams tribute[edit]

Can anyone in the Boston area get some free shots of the "Good Will Hunting" bench in the Public Gardens, as people are currently using it as a tribute for Robin Williams and it would be nice to get some shots of that for his article. (Will also ask as Mass. project). --MASEM (t) 03:23, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal[edit]

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

GPS coordinates request[edit]

Crossposting with Wikipedia_talk:Meetup/Boston, I am asking here: can anyone add GPS coordinates to my new Boston-related article, the The Partisans (sculpture)? Also, we could use a post-July-2006 picture (if it is on Commons, it is mislabeled and I couldn't find it). Cheers, --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 14:31, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live![edit]

WikiProject X icon.svg

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Proposal to move the page for the Fort Hill neighborhood located within Roxbury to Fort Hill, Boston[edit]

Hi all, there currently is a discussion on the talk page at Fort Hill, Roxbury about moving the page to Fort Hill, Boston. Fort Hill, Boston currently redirects to Fort Point, as an indicator for the hill that previously was located in the neighborhood. There is also a suggestion about leaving [Fort_Hill,_Boston|Fort Hill, Boston]] as a disambiguation page. Any input would be appreciated. Chambers617 (talk) 23:38, 21 March 2015 (UTC)

Can anyone in Boston help me verify something?[edit]

An anonymous editor posted a claim at Talk:The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog#Original quotation that The Boston Journal published the phrase over a month before the currently known oldest publication of the phrase. According to the editor, it was published in the Monday, February 9, 1885 edition. Could someone go to the Boston Public Library and confirm this (preferably with a scan to post on Commons)? The Boston Public Library has the The Boston Journal on microfilm (call number AN2.M4B6435). Kaldari (talk) 04:44, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

@Cscott, Phoebe, and GlassCobra: First person to post a scan wins a barnstar! Kaldari (talk) 04:49, 12 September 2016 (UTC)
@Sj: Library stuff, right up your alley, right? I'm in Seattle until the end of the week for a WMF offsite; if no one tackles this before I get back, I might be able to chase the reference down. (It would be helpful to remind me on the 24th.) C. Scott Ananian (talk) 16:46, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
@Cscott: Back in Boston? Surely there are few activies in Boston more fun than combing through old microfilm looking for pangrams! Kaldari (talk) 06:34, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
@Kaldari: Ok, going to go this afternoon! Should be fun... C. Scott Ananian (talk) 17:05, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
@Kaldari: The BPL's microfilm of the Boston *Weekly* Journal is missing all issues between 22 Sep 1881 and 23 Dec 1886. Trying the Boston *Morning* Journal now, maybe that's the one; its entry says "aka The Boston Journal". There's no paper called just "the Boston Journal", except for one started in 1991. C. Scott Ananian (talk) 20:51, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
@Cscott: Sounds like The Boston Journal article might need some updates as well :) That's too bad about the missing issues. Hope it's in the Boston Morning Journal instead. Kaldari (talk) 20:57, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
@Kaldari: Done! It was actually the Feb 10, 1885 issue. Uploaded to and (for completeness) . I'm on the library computer now; please help w/ categories, linking, etc. Very exciting to find this, especially after reading all of the Feb 9, 1885 issue and coming up blank. C. Andrew P. McArdle Memorial Bridge[edit]

Does Andrew P. McArdle Memorial Bridge exist? Thanks. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:24, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

It was created and deleted (for being a hoax) ca 2015, but it's listed in Google Maps here: [1] and it is mentioned in Boston Globe articles from end of 2013 to beginning of 2014. ([2] and [3]) I have a feeling there's something obviously fake about it (seeing that it was deleted) but I'm not seeing it (although the actual content of the article may provide more clues). Popular pages report[edit]

We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Boston/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Boston.

We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:

  • The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
  • The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
  • The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).

We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Boston, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.

Warm regards, the Community Tech Team 17:16, 17 May 2017 (UTC)
