IG Farben Building

Hi there, I've translated de:IG-Farben-Haus to IG Farben Building. It's currently open for comment at Featured Article Candidates if anyone would like to contribute here. Thanks. --Mcginnly 14:35, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

IG Farben Building

I do not see any notation in the article about the small U.S. Air Force detachment that was located in the I.G. Farben building from approximately 1948 to 1954. When I was stationed there in 1951 to 1953 it was designated as the 1968th AACS (Air and Airways Communication Service). There was a radar tower located on the roof at the far end of the building and the operational center on the floor below. I still have pictures of the radar installation. The original purpose for the installation was to control air traffic for Rhine-Main and Weisbaden airfields during the Berlin Airlift. After the Berlin Airlift ended the operation continued until approximately 1954 (maybe later). The ATC (Air Traffic Control) center was operated by U.S. Air Force personnel who lived either in the local housing or were billeted in a barracks on Gutleut Strasse in Frankfurt. In 1953 a small number of ex-Luftwaffe pilots were phased into the positions as air traffic controllers to replace the U.S. Force personnel. Contributor: R. Franklin, Los Gatos, CA

  • Edit as you see fit - just cite sources.--Mcginnly | Natter 19:07, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Your pictures of the radar would be really good.

I.G. Farben photos

I have scanned a few old photos from 1952 of the I.G. Farben building and radar installation, but not sure how to submit them to you. I'm very new at using Wikipedia so please let me know how you want me to send them. Bob Franklin

Hi there - That's great. Here's how to do it.

  1. First you'll need to create a wikipedia account to be allowed to upload files. At the top right of this screen should be a link to "Sign in/Create account". Click the create account button and then supply the requested information.
  2. Once you've got your account set up and you're logged in click on the "upload file" button (You'll find it to the left of the screen, under the "go" and "search" buttons. Click "upload file".
  3. Half way down the page is a button marked "browse" click on this and then browse your computer to the location where you have saved your scanned photographs.
  4. When you find one, click on it and click the "open" button.
  5. The go to the "licensing" pull-down menu and select "you created this yourself and release it into the public domain" (or whichever copyright notice you would like to add).
  6. Click the upload file button.

Your image will now be uploaded to wikipedia - make a note of the page names eg 'Image:IG Farben radar.jpg' abd repeat the process for the rest of your pictures.

Kind regards. --Mcginnly | Natter 15:26, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

I.G. Farben Photos Sorry about the delay. I have tried on a few occasions to upload the photos per your instructions and those of the Wikipedia help files. I keep getting a rejection message that "ATC radar installation, 1952 is not an acceptable format. The only problem I can see is that the original photos were scanned in a .bmp format and the system will not convert to the .jpg format for uploading. I may try to find a friend with a scanner that uses a .jpg format. This is becoming a bit more of a project than planned. If you have any other suggestions please let me know. I will be gone for a couple weeks but will try again when I return. Regards, Bob Franklin

Project directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 17:06, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

I have merged the project template into {{WikiProject Germany}}. {{WikiProject Germany|Frankfurt=yes}} now produces a Frankfurt banner and adds article talk pages to Category:WikiProject Frankfurt articles. Kusma (討論) 15:57, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 21:34, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
