Draft: Aliyu Bin Abbas - AfC review request

Hi everyone,

I have a draft sitting in the AfC queue that I would love eyes on: Draft: Aliyu Bin Abbas

Aliyu Bin Abbas is a Nigerian youth political organiser, humanitarian, and Presidential Candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP). He founded the National Youth Alliance (NYA) and has been covered by several Nigerian news outlet including Daily Trust and Vanguard.

The draft was declined a while back because a reviewer flagged it as AI-generated. I rewrote the whole thing from scratch using the source materials and resubmitted it on 17 April 2026. It has been in the queue since then.

I should mention upfront that I have a conflict of interest per WP:COI, so I cannot move it to main space myself. If anyone here has the time to take a look and either review it or point out anything that still needs fixing, I would really appreciate it.

Source for the flag of the Republic of Benin (1967)

Hi. Do anyone have any source for whether the flag used in the infobox of the Republic of Benin (1967) (former Nigerian break-away state), actually existed. It very much seems to be just copy of the flag of Biafra, and the only source I can find are various internet forums like FOTW, which should not be trusted as sources, the same way Wikipedia alone can not be seen as a source of its own. I tried to bring the issue before on the article for the flag itself, which was since deleted (for the lack of sources), but I was basically just told that "it probably exists, but African sources aren't widely available". I personally disagree with that view point, since we can not run the encyclopedia on the view that "sources are somewhere out there but can't be accessed at the moment", and we should be especially critical on topics like this, which can easly slip under the radar, especially considering there were other cases of fake obscure flags being used in the infoboxes for years without deduction. So, I wanna ask, if maybe people more knowlagable on Nigerian history, or with access to sources, can verify if this flag is real or fake. Thank you. @Artemis Andromeda I have looked into the provenance of the image, and I do not think its present use is supportable. The Commons file page says that the SVG was created in October 2006 as "own work according to" Flags of the World and was based on the Biafran flag. The cited source there, FOTW, merely states that the Biafran flag's red was replaced by black and attributes the claim to contributor postings dating from 1996–97; it supplies no contemporary document, photograph, publication or archival citation whatsoever.

The reproduced text of Major Albert Okonkwo's declaration actually discusses the new state's claimed sovereign powers and foreign relations but it doedn't say anything about a flag. The main scholarly study of the episode I could find, S. E. Orobator's "The Biafran Crisis and the Midwest" in African Affairs, likewise does not appear to document such a flag.

This does not prove that no flag could ever have existed, but the burden is on those wishing to include the design. At present, the image appears to be a modern reconstruction derived from an unsourced vexillology website rather than a reliably documented historical flag. So, per WP:V, I support removing it from the infobox unless a reliable source specifically confirming its adoption or contemporary use can be produced. I'd appreciate a review of Draft:Chubby Daniels, a draft about a Nigerian-born visual artist working with recycled materials, now based in Leicester, UK. The draft has been declined three times at AfC for lacking independent secondary sources, but one reviewer acknowledged the sourcing as "genuinely borderline" before recusing. Sources include BBC News, BBC Radio Leicester, and a bylined Leicester Mercury feature. Would an editor familiar with coverage of Nigerian artists be willing to assess whether this meets WP:GNG or WP:NARTIST? Swaglomo (talk) 13:39, 26 August 2026 (UTC)
