Article in need of attention.

Not sure how active this project is, but I came across an article that needs attention. Germans in Argentina has the start of a great article, but it is still very non-encyclopedic in tone. I removed 1st person references, and tried to add section headers. The information is all there, but someone with more interest and knowledge in the subject than I needs to comb through and extract the encyclopedia article from this term paper. I did all that I could. Good luck. --Jayron32|talk|contribs 03:43, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

I edited the article and added it to Project South America, as it seemed detached from its region to me. Hope that is ok. Do I need to do anything else? gidonb 16:39, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

Resolved

Potential Collaboration: Indian Slavery

I've nominated the very short article on Indian Slavery for the Article Collaboration and Improvement Drive. The article covers two continents and some 420 years of history, but lacks basic organization and a lot of relevant information. It deserves to be brought up to the caliber of other articles on Slavery, Slavery in the United States, and so on. You can vote for it at the improvement drive page. --Carwil 14:10, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Draft Guidelines for Lists of companies by country - Feedback Requested

Within WikiProject Companies I am trying to establish guidelines for all Lists of companies by country, the implementation of which would hopefully ensure a minimum quality standard and level of consistency across all of these related but currently disparate articles. The ultimate goal is the improvement of these articles to Featured List status. As a WikiProject that currently has one of these lists within your scope, I would really appreciate your feedback! You can find the draft guidelines here. Thanks for your help as we look to build consensus and improve Wikipedia! - Richc80 (talk) 21:40, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

South American music industry

I've been unable to find information pertaining to the music industries in South America, particularly Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay, so I was hoping someone here could help me. Is there an equivalent to the Recording Industry Association of America or British Phonographic Industry in any of those or other South American countries? I ask because I'm working on a global music-market type article (List of music recording sales certifications) and I've been unable to find much info pertaining to the South American music industry. Any help anyone could give would very much appreciated. Drewcifer (talk) 02:45, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

19th century witch trials

Hello! I have an interest in witch trials. There is several claimants out on the net about the occurence of witch trials in South America in the 1800s. They are merely short mentions that a large amount of witch trials occured in the first half of this century; they do not mention which country. Is there anyone here who knows anything about this? In which country or countries did this happen, and during which years? Do you know anything of the circumstances, or about any individual cases? Can you recomend a site on the net, or give me some names, places and years to google? I would be most grateful for a reply! Regards--Aciram (talk) 12:55, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Province of "Teukamon"

I am currently creating an article on Richard Pearce (botanist) who visited South America several times in the 1860s to collect plants. My principle source is the history of Veitch Nurseries, Hortus Veitchii. This states that Pearce was sent via Lima to the Province of "Teukamon" in 1863, from where he sent back back various plants including Begonia boliviensis; from the plant name, I would assume that it was discovered in Bolivia. The only Google hit for "Teukamon" is to the page in Hortus Veitchii. My plant books say that Begonia boliviensis "originates from montane cloud forest on the Eastern side of the Andes in Argentina and Bolivia." This also refers to a town called Tucumán (in Argentina?), which I guess is the same place.

Can anyone shed any light and identify the mysterious province? Cheers Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 08:45, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

On following the links, it seems that there is a Tucumán Province in Argentina, so I guess that's the place. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 08:52, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

I created this as a companion to Native American art. Even while reading scholarly works on Latin American art, it's a challenge to determine who is and who is not Native or Mestizo among artists from Latin America. I have some listed (Miguel Cabrera, Frida Kahlo, Rodolfo Morales, Diego Rivera, Rufino Tamayo, Camilo Egas, Luis González Palma, Roberto Mamani Mamani, Oswaldo Guayasamín, the Mujeres Creando, Martín Chambi, Santos Chávez) Even some artists involved in Indigenist movements seem to be non-Indian (such as José Sabogal). Can anyone offer insight into additional indigenous artists from Latin America? Thanks so much!

I also created the Category:Latin American artists of indigenous descent to help with this. -Uyvsdi (talk) 17:44, 29 April 2009 (UTC)Uyvsdi

South America articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the South America articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Popular pages

Would anyone be opposed to adding this project to the Popular pages project? This will cause a list of the most popular (based on pageview statistics) pages within the scope of the project to be created monthly. This is a useful tool to identify frequently-viewed pages that are not up to par, quality-wise. For a project like this one, it may also help to clarify its current scope and so assist in the refining of the scope. See for example Wikipedia:WikiProject Argentina/Popular pages. Here this is discussed a little http://www.biblediscovered.com/jewish-hebrew-people-in-the-world/bolivias-jews/ ".... Jewish merchants (both Sephardim and Ashkenazim)...."

In my family we have ashkenazic ancestors, who came from Italy and East Europe, AFAIK. A lot of families in Vallegrande have origins in East Europe also. Vallegrande was mostly jewish population (both Sephardim and Ashkenazim) at the begining.

Yerba Mate article

I had started to edit the article on Yerba Mate, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yerba_mate, before realizing that it may be of interest to this group. My only edits so far have been grammatical in nature though I did move a reference to the English spelling of the word with an accent to what I though was a more appropriate location. I also removed a sentence from the first paragraph that clearly existed in the second.

Anyway, I want to further edit the piece and eventually make sure the sources are valid and support the article. Before I continue, I want to make sure I'm not stepping on any toes. Should I run all edits by other people? As you might be able to tell, I'm new to this process and have done only minor edits on articles before. This article needs some major editing so that it both flows and presents valid information.

In case you're interested, I did live in Argentina and I do drink mate. And I don't spell the word with an accent because it is extraneous. English speakers learn to pronounce homophones correctly all the time. IMO, we can do it in this case as well.

Leaflet For Wikiproject South America At Wikimania 2014

Hi all,

My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.

One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.

This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:

• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film

• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.

• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.

• Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____

• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost

For more information or to sign up for one for your project, go to:

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
