Premier Volleyball League seasons

[edit]

The 2026 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference is this weekend and going by the standard pattern, it would be the first conference of the 2026 season. However, Sherwin Malonzo, the PVL's control committee chief, recently stated that the PVL calendar starts with the draft in June and ends with the Awards Night in May. This would make the upcoming AFC the last conference of what might actually be the 2025–26 season.

This revelation is quite confusing since our season articles follow the league calendar starting from January. A similar event happened last year when the 2025 PVL on Tour was announced as a preseason tournament, which in itself is also complex. Long story short, the initial thought was that the Tour would begin the new season, but after starting a merge proposal, it was decided that the 2024–25 AFC and the Tour were part of the same season.

Given the new revelation of the league's new June–May calendar, our PVL season articles (specifically 2024, 2024–25, and 2026) might actually be misaligned. I will consider a potential move discussion, but I want to gather your thoughts on this. MarcusAbacus (talk) 11:31, 29 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I will also add that the 2024 and 2025 drafts were held in July and June, respectively, while the 2025 Awards Night was held in May. So the new calendar might have started midway through the 2024 season. MarcusAbacus (talk) 11:35, 29 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
This depends on (1) what the league says, and (2) how WP:RS deals with it. Howard the Duck (talk) 11:45, 29 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
During the off-season, most sources used "2026 PVL season" in the context that we are currently in the preseason. SPIN.ph ABS-CBN One Sports So I feel like it might come down to the latter, we'll just have to wait and find out throughout the next few conferences. MarcusAbacus (talk) 15:27, 29 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Going by this logic:
The 2025-26 season started with the draft and will end with the awards.
The future 2026-27 season will begin with the 2026 draft.
This new development is a retroactive decision/clarification. I recall on how we were confused about a draft and a pre-season tournament which seems to be held in the middle of the season and assumed it to be just a PVL quirk. Hariboneagle927 (talk) 14:15, 29 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
It has kinda felt twisted since that 2024 season. The PVL themselves stated that the 2024 season would have two AFCs with the second to be held from late 2024 to mid-2025, which is pretty close to the actual running of the 2024–25 AFC, but then Palou stated that the 2024–25 AFC is separated from the 2024 season.
The 2025 Tour with its preseason remark really got us confused during that merge proposal and now it looks like the PVL's calendar is being made more clear. Like what Howard said though, we will see how the media will adapt to this new calendar. MarcusAbacus (talk) 15:10, 29 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Team Liquid PH and Team Falcons PH

[edit]

I feel these Philippine branches of Team Liquid and Team Falcons should be merged into the article of the overall organization. I get that they have separate teams in MPL Indonesia and MPL MENA, respectively, but it's still the same organization, nonetheless. One example that comes to mind is Counter Logic Gaming, which had League of Legends teams in both North America and Europe.

For TLPH, I think it will be more of a split. The team's history as ECHO would remain in a separate article while its history as TLPH would be merged into Team Liquid. MarcusAbacus (talk) 04:59, 4 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

If you want these deleted/merged, please create discussions on appropriate talk pages.
FWIW, the different DLSU teams that are notable have separate pages. Howard the Duck (talk) 11:10, 4 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I did go ahead and start the discussions earlier. Esports teams don't normally have individual articles for individual teams or games, so this is mainly to make things less confusing. MarcusAbacus (talk) 11:21, 4 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

There is a requested move discussion at Talk:LGBTQ Filipino American culture#Requested move 8 February 2026 that may be of interest to members of this WikiProject. ROY is WAR Talk! 01:40, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Photos from Facebook/social media

[edit]

I am maintaining 2026 Antipolo's 2nd congressional district special election, and each major candidate save one has a photo from Facebook tagged as PD, with the other one from COMELEC via the COC submitted by the candidate. Is this allowed? cc: JWilz12345 and uploader of these photos Walter H. White. Howard the Duck (talk) 21:37, 10 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Howard the Duck: None of these seem to be taken by "an officer or employee of the Government of the Philippines [...] as part of their regularly prescribed official duties". These photos are likely taken by social media managers of each respective candidate. For candidates who are currently elected (if any), then it might be reasonable to assume that they're employed by their office, though the attribution would still be incorrect here as obviously these politicians are not taking photos of themselves. Chlod (say hi!) 22:41, 10 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Social media managers may be "an officer or employee of the Government of the Philippines" but I don't think these photos were taken by such people.
Also there's a question of official photo shoots where the photos may be contracted to a third party. Would those be "an officer or employee of the Government of the Philippines"? Howard the Duck (talk) 23:49, 10 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Social media managers are sometimes on the payroll as the office's communications/press staff, but that's not surefire and there's no way to tell. Works by contractors hired by the Government may still be covered by copyright, as commissioned works keep their copyright (specifically with the creator of the work; e.g. the photographer of the portrait or their company, if employed) unless there's an agreement to the contrary. The Government also does not automatically lose copyright for all works whose ownership is transferred to it; that's a specific exemption for Government copyright under Section 176.3 of the IPC. I think the bigger question there is whether one can ascertain that the photo was, in fact, taken by a third party. In my experience, many government agencies have internal staff that serve public communications functions, who normally take up the role of being photographers for official portraits. Chlod (say hi!) 05:06, 11 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Probably not, when candidates run for office they are technically not government officials. Works by political parties or their campaign team aren't government works. For incumbent officials this gets murkier. The most straightforward answer is if the concerned photos are credited to a PIO (Public Information Office)Hariboneagle927 (talk)
