Several well known female golfers from the Republic of Ireland include Philomena Garvey, Kitty McCann and Clair Redden. The first Irish woman to win the British Open was Philomena Garvey, who accomplished this in 1957. The next Irish woman to do this Maureen Madill, who accomplished this in 1979.[1]
