Ysgol Brynrefail is a bilingual secondary school for pupils aged 11-18, situated in Llanrug, Gwynedd, north Wales. There were 714 pupils on roll at the school in 2016.[1] Its current headmaster is Mr Arwyn Williams.[2]

According to the latest Estyn inspection report, 91% come from homes where Welsh is the main language, with 99% speaking it as a first language or to an equivalent standard.[3]

Extra-curricular activities such as the annual Eisteddfod form an important aspect of school life. Around Christmas time, sixth form pupils have the opportunity to organise and host a party for children from a local special needs school.

Ex-pupils currently working in the world of Welsh television and radio include presenter Dafydd 'Du' Meredydd; radio presenter Jeni Lyn; television presenter Trystan Morris; and members of several bands including Race Horses, Derwyddon Doctor Gonzo and Y Bandana.

Notable alumni also include Welsh literary greats T. H. Parry-Williams, Gwenlyn Parry and Eirug Wyn. Sporting former pupils include Welsh international footballer Malcolm Allen and David Brailsford CBE, the esteemed British Cycling performance director.
