Biography
Yu Mo-lin (Chinese: 余慕莲)(born Yu Zhi-li, Chinese: 余志雅),and her nickname is YuMao(余毛). Her mother—Mei-Mei Den (邓美美) was an actress who was not widely known, and her younger sister—Zhi-Li Yu(余志丽) is a pupil of Cantonese Opera performer Jian-Hui Ren(任剑辉).[1] In her early years, Yu worked as a saleswoman in a department store. She took part in the repertory theatre, and once featured in Taming of the Shrew . From 1979, she began to appear in TVB series. Often, she was assigned roles such a street cleaner, maid and often portrays unattractive woman. She is a character actress who has a talent in comical roles. Her roles and personality leave a deep impression with the audience and she does not seems to mind to be the symbol of 'ugly woman' on TV and movies in Hong Kong.[2]

In 2004, she donated 80,000 yuan for building an elementary school in GuiZhou Province, and the school is entitled Yu Mu Lian Hope School.[3] On 22 June 2006, she acted as the ambassador of the charitable activity called 'Cascc famine eight hours'.[4]
