Zainab Hameed (Urdu:زینب حمید) is an award-winning Pakistani student and international debater. She is 15 years old and is a student of Karachi Grammar School. She first came into limelight on 7 July 2012 by winning the Debate#World Karl Popper Debate Championships 2012.
Each year, the International Debate Education Association (IDEA) hosts an annual Youth Forum, during which the World Karl Popper Debate Championships are held. Nations from all around the world attend this Forum for the tournament, as well as the 2-week debate training camp. This Year IDEA Karl Popper Debate Championship was held from 2 Jul 2012 - 6 Jul 2012 in León, Guanajuato Mexico. This year's topic for the KPDC finals was:
"Guantanamo Bay prison should be closed down immediately" .
Zainab Hameed also took part in it and was in Team Pakistan along with Azeem Liaquat and Ahmed Shujaan. They were on the affirmative side of the debate topic and were defending the motion. Team Pakistan won the KPDC 2012 by defeating Korea in the final round. Zainab Hameed finished the debate tournament as the top speaker of KPDC 2012. According to the debaters final rankings issued by IDEBATE; she was ranked at first position out of the 200 contestants from all over the world.
