Template:Infobox Three Kingdoms biography Template:Chinese name Zhang Yun was a military general serving under the warlord Liu Biao during the late Han Dynasty period of Chinese history. He was Cai Mao's maternal nephew and specialized in naval warfare like his uncle. They pledged allegiance to the warlord Cao Cao when Liu Cong surrendered to Cao after Liu Biao's death.

In fiction

In Luo Guanzhong's historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Zhang Yun and Cai Mao were appointed by Cao Cao as his naval admirals during the Battle of Red Cliffs. Cao fell for a ruse by Zhou Yu and had Zhang and Cai executed after mistakenly believing that they were planning to assassinate him.
