Landmark School in Beverly, Massachusetts is a coed American boarding and day school offering a college preparatory program for students in grades 2–12 with language-based learning disabilities such as dyslexia and executive function disorder. Landmark School offers a day and boarding program, as well as a summer program.

History[edit]

Landmark School was founded in 1971 by visionary Dr. Charles “Chad” Drake to educate students whose reading, writing, spelling, and math skills did not match their superior thinking and problem-solving capacities. Most called these children dyslexic or learning disabled. Chad saw their promise, and called them bright and capable. Dr. Drake understood not only the neurological processing challenges faced by these students, but also the specific remedial methodologies that were critical to their success in learning. He explored the works of many others in the field and began to imagine an individualized remedial program appropriate for this specific group of learners. One-to-one tutorials, structured language-based approaches, and a customized program that met each student where they were in the learning process were the underpinnings of his vision.

In the beginning, there were only 40 students and a small group of teachers on one campus in Beverly, Massachusetts. Today, Landmark serves over 475 students in grades 2-12 from all over the country and the world.

Soon after the school was founded, they established the Landmark School Outreach Program to provide professional development, consulting, workshops, and in-person and online courses for educators around the country and the globe so that they can share their proven, research-based methods and strategies.

The current Headmaster is Josh Clark. Josh follows Robert Broudo who retired after 50+ years at Landmark.

Today Landmark is recognized internationally as a leader in the field of language-based learning disabilities, such as dyslexia.
