I'm very concerned about the copyright stuff here. Please look at this site and tell me that this is not just a paraphrased version of a copyrighted article:

If one looks at this article's history, the similarities are more obvious.J Hofmann Kemp

Yes, there are obvious similarities, some very disconcerting. I suspected something when the article first appeared, because it is not in Helga's style of writing English. Danny

Thanks, Danny -- I suppose the question is, is it plagiarism? and, more importantly, of a copyrighted source? If it were one of my students, I know I'd call it plagiarism...J Hofmann Kemp

Certainly one should mark down a student for (a) using only one source, and (b) paraphrasing rather awkwardly. Also, if the student claimed it was his own work, that too is clearly deceptive. But this seems to me to be at least paraphrased sufficiently to avoid copyright problems--that's a pretty low bar to clear. Yes, clearly it's a rewording of the copyrighted article in question, but it is reworded, and is a pretty straightforward recitation of facts. I would call it "plagiarism" if it were presented as an original work, but I would not call it a copyright infringement. If the original holder complains, we can remove it. -- Lee Daniel Crocker

Good enough for me. However, I strongly encourage Wikipedians who crib their articles to cite a source, just to avoid this type of problem. We have to be able to trust that articles placed here aren't just badly stolen from elsewhere. It's one thing to take several combined sources, and write something new as a result -- that's normal 9although the sources should be noted, as on 1911 and other encyclopedia, IMO. It's another thing to start with something that really rides the legal and ethical edge -- each editor then becomes somewhat culpable if the original stub or article isn't "clean". J Hofmann Kemp

Thank you ,Lee Daniel Crocker, for your input.

J Hofmann Kemp ,I believe one should make a difference on someone's original text and something that is published on a site, that offers 'something for sale'. Prints in that case. Therefore they are interested in 'advertising' besides of course being very informative.

I would have liked to have copyright applied equally. But all my German and Prussian ancestors accomplishments are free to the world. All patents have been taken, large part of homeland has been 'taken'. I do not see anyone paying royalties ,everytime they play Bach or Bethoven or sing a X'mas song. So to be equal, free information should go to everyone in the world. user:H. Jonat
