Skjaldborg was a Doom Metal band from Scituate, Massachusetts formed in 2005.
History[edit]
Skjaldborg was a doom metal band from Scituate, Massachusetts. Founded in 2005 under alias by Dominic Spinzola and Matthew O'niell, it became widely popular throughout the south shore region of Massachusetts. Originally the band consisted of Argyle Skull-Cleaver (O'niell) as lead singer and Ivarr Shield-Breaker (Spinzola) on guitar and bass. Other members include Brad The Impaler on Bass and Nicholas "Trix" Spinzola on Drums. The band informally broke up in 2008.
Both Spinzola and O'niell had been together in a previous grunge/punk band during 2005 named Ronnie Dowd and the 43rds alongside drummer Harrison Anthony. First covering Nirvana songs and trying to write music to play at the high school talent show. As time went on the band began to fall apart, Dom and Matt wanted to play more aggressive music. By 2006, the band broke up.
After some time in isolation, a demo was recorded by Spinzola and O'niell for a song called "MLM" an acronym meaning "Massachusetts Liberal Massacre" under the band name Skjaldborg. This was Dom and Matt's new project which was heavily inspired from Norse Mythology. The name "Skjaldborg" was an old Norse word meaning "Shield Wall" a military formation used during the Dark Ages.
