Magyar Nagydíj[edit]

Hey, I restored those edits I made to the 2012 F1 season page. I just don't think it's necessary to have two columns in the calendar, one for the race title and one for the Grand Prix. I understand your concerns about the use of "Magyar Nagydíj" in the table, but it is in a column with nineteen other Grands Prix. Five more of these - Spain, Canada, Germany, Italy and Brazil - are also in their local language. Furthermore, the "Magyar Nagydíj" links straight to the Hungarian Grand Prix page. Even holding the cursor over the flag icon will reveal that it is Hungary. Taken in isolation, it could certainly be an issue. But I feel that because it is in a table with the other Grands Prix, and because it links to the relevant article, its use is acceptable.

Even if we could not use the name "Magyar Nagydíj", I still think two columns is unnecessary. I don't really see the importance of listing the race's title sponsor. Does it really matter if Qantas or Foster's sponsors the Austrealian Grand Prix? Does the sponsor actually affect the race, or the season? We use the title sponsors of each team because those sponsors often form the basis of the car liveries, thereby making them easier to idnetify. But the title sponsors of the races don't really affect things. And if you take the title sponsors out, all you've really got is two columns dedicated to the same thing: the name of the race. I don't think clariying the name "Magyar Nagydíj" is enough to justify a second column (especially given the way it is presented), and I don't think leaving the race sponsors in the column is notable enough for it. I could maybe agree on the positioning of the flag icons for each race, but I just don't see the need for having two columns and/or the title sponsor of a race. I think there are some things - like the number of laps in the race - that are far more notable. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 23:31, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I'm happy with either - local names, or English names. I just don't think the title sponsor warrants a mention, particularly when other details like the number of laps go unsaid.
I also think the flag icon should go before the race rather than the circuit, largely because we've had races assigned to circuits that are not necessarily in the same country - Imola being the prime example. It was billed as the San Marino Grand Prix, but the circuit is in Italy. This may require us to re-think out position on the flag for Valencia, through. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 02:28, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
These are old issues Prisonmonkeys. Flags go to the circuit to stop nonsense like Supernational and subnational flags being used to denote races like European Grand Prix or Detriot Grand Prix. Also number of laps has norelvance to the calendar. Also an old issue long ago resolved. --Falcadore (talk) 03:10, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Caterham & Team Lotus[edit]

Why did you split up Team Lotus and Caterham? They're still the same team with the same staff and ownership, plus licenses. And we haven't heard from the FIA whether Caterham is a completely new team from Team Lotus. I don't think we can just create our own standards and supercede the FIA (though they have no control over wikipedia), but I don't feel its ethically right. So I'm in favor of dropping the Team Lotus 2011 article and putting it back with Caterham, but I'm just asking what consensus and decision making was made to warrant splitting two teams into four pages.Gaeaman787 (talk) 16:21, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited Renault F1, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page French (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). The wackiness of Lotus[edit]

With this whole debacle over Lotus/Caterham and Lotus Renault to just being Lotus. All F1 info for some reason counts Lotus F1 as a continuation of the original Lotus from Colin Chapman, so that's out. Does creating a new page for a f1 team relate to who exactly owns it, or is it as Prisonermonkeys said in that all the team needs to do is change its official trading name and its a new team. I don't think that Lotus F1, Caterham, and Marussia had to pay the entry fee for new teams. Gaeaman787 (talk) 22:43, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

2009 Race of Champions[edit]

Hello MotorsportPete93. I just came across an article you created admittedly a few years ago, but I thought I would ask the question.

Is it just me or does the article lead make no effort to describe what the Race of Champions is? I see no mention of motor racing or motorsport anywhere in the lead apart from stating racing drivers compete in it. But what do they do? Open letters? Play scrabble? Identify breakfast cereals while blindfolded?

Article leads should always provide a basic description of what an event is. Might it be possible to look into this and other articles (of which I do not know which they are) where you may have overlooked a description of the event instead of labelling it, saying where it was held and suggest who might have competed. A good list of secondary characteristics to be sure, but it omits the primary - what is it?

Thank you for your time. --Falcadore (talk) 01:39, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Scuderia Coloni[edit]

Hi. Just letting you know the merge you commented on at Talk:Scuderia Coloni has been done, bringing in material from the Enzo Colini Racing Car Systems page. I did the merge but make no claim to any expertise in motorsports, so apologies for any accidental inaccuracies I may have introduced. I notice you're not around much any more, but if you stop by Wikipedia do please have a quick look at Scuderia Coloni and correct any errors I've made.
