Notice

The article Vavuniya Hindu College has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:NSCHOOL, lacks significant coverage in multiple independent secondary sources.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. December 2023[edit]

I've removed the claim that the post-civil war Finnish government was "fascist" from Matti Turkia as neither of the attached references verified that claim; as far as I can tell, this is a WP:FRINGE view not held by the mainline historians. I'll also note that I already brought up this issue on your talk page July 2023. Ljleppan (talk) 21:29, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You continue to include these unsupported claims in new articles you create, such as Kalle Hakala, while also refusing to communicate. If this problem continues, my next step will be to take this to WP:ANI. Ljleppan (talk) 21:38, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Continuing concerns about editing and lack of communication[edit]

Hi, Obi2canibe I've noticed you've kept introducing unverified claims about fascism in Finland into biographies about Finnish Civil War era people. I've already approached you about this issue on your talk page multiple times, both in December 2023 and in July 2023. To recap my issues with your most recent edits:

  • Article content must be supported by reliable sources. See WP:V. You've failed to support numerous claims about fascism in Finland, see e.g. the following removals of unsupported claims you'd inserted during article creation: diff, diff, diff, diff, diff, diff, diff.
  • Where you've attached a reference to the above claims, those references have failed to verify your claims. This is unacceptable, per WP:INTEGRITY.
  • Masters theses are not seen as sufficiently reliable sources outside of exceptional cases. See WP:SCHOLARSHIP, stating "Masters dissertations and theses are considered reliable only if they can be shown to have had significant scholarly influence." For example in Eino Tainio you've heavily based the article on citations to a master's thesis ("pro gradu", in Finnish). Other articles you've created using masters theses as sources include Jaakko Mäki and Ville Kiviniemi.
  • Based on my attempt to review the relevant academic literature on Finnish fascism, it appears to me that your claims that the Finnish government (see diff, diff, diff) or the Whites (diff, diff, diff, diff) as a whole were fascists or fascist organizations are rather exceptional, and would thus need exceptional sources per WP:EXCEPTIONAL.
    • For one, they are contradicted by e.g. the works of Oula Silvennoinen [fi], a historian who has been extremely active in e.g. highlighting the "nasty" aspects of Finnish cooperation with Nazi Germany. For example, in ‘Home, Religion, Fatherland’: Movements of the Radical Right in Finland, which "charts the history of fascism in Finland", he states that the Lapua movement was "the only [fascist-style organization] one to ever gain true mass support for any period of time" and "the only mass movement of radical nationalism to attract wide popular support in inter-war Finland" (p. 135).
    • See also Vesa Yrjö Vares's From allies to opponents. Conservatives facing fascism in Finland in the 1930s , concluding with "It also became abundantly clear that in the long run the success of ‘fascism’ elsewhere did not give encouragement to Finnish conservatives nor rouse any appeal to imitate it, except briefly in the spring of 1933, and even then hesitantly. This remained the only potential time of ‘hybridization’ between authoritarian and fascist or semi-fascist tendencies, and it ended up in a fiasco for the Finnish conservatives. [..] ‘Fascist’ success abroad became a clear burden, not an advantage, to Finnish conservatives in Finnish domestic policy. Open fascism and national socialism were very unpopular in the Finnish political culture of the 1930s. When democracy fell and political systems became authoritarian in most European countries, Finland went to the Left – ending up with an Agrarian President and an Agrarian-Social Democratic-Liberal Government. [..] In short: although not a democratic knight in shining armour in the eyes of the present day, nor even in the period in question, Finland represented in many senses a rare case of a successful conservative anti-fascist struggle in a democratic society."
    • Neither can I find anything supporting such strong statements in Tepura and Roselius's (eds) The Finnish Civil War 1918: History, Memory, Legacy

As an editor with almost 55 000 edits, these policies should be very clear to you, as should be the requirement to communicate with other editors. see e.g. WP:EPTALK, and the explanatory essay Wikipedia:Communication is required. - Ljleppan (talk) 07:52, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ljleppan: I have refrained from responding to you because what I have to say to you will offend you. But as you keep hounding me on my talk page and have now resorted to reporting me to ANI I will respond in the hope that you will leave me alone. I find you contemptible. And I have no desire to engage with someone who defends war crimes, murder and torture. I am here to create content, not protect of the reputation of my tribe by censoring information.
If the community has issues with my editing I will take notice and act accordingly. I will not take any notice of anything you say, you have lost all credibility with me. Please stay away from my talk page.--Obi2canibe (talk) 16:46, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I know it can be difficult if you are feeling vulnerable, but please try to avoid personal attacks. A phrase like "I find you contemptible" is unacceptable. Deb (talk) 14:24, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Accusing Ljleppan of defending war crimes, murder and torture, censoring information, hounding [you] on [your] talk page, as well as outright saying I find you contemptible & that I will not take any notice of anything you say is beyond the pale, and goes far past the line of AGF & NPA. Content dispute aside, which you ought to engage with anyway, this is not how we are supposed to conduct ourselves here. sawyer * he/they * talk 02:47, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please explain something?[edit]

I believe that you are the one who set up the table at the article List of schools in Northern Province, Sri Lanka, and it's a fine table — but for one thing. You have included a footnote in it that reads:

B=Boys; B(G)= Boys with Girls; G=Girls; G(B)=Girls with Boys; M=Mixed

...and you have used this notation throughout the table. Can you clarify it? I am sure that I am not the only one who cannot see the difference between the categories "B(G)", "G(B)" and "M". They would all seem to mean that the school has both sexes. What is to be understood by these three categories? Please explain it in the article. If they are all the same, I recommend editing all instances of "B(G)" and "G(B)" to read "M". Kelisi (talk) 22:31, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
