Reference Needed[edit]

We need a reference for the part of the lead that reads "Michael G. Vickers (born 1953) was confirmed as the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence by the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee on March 16, 2011." The closest I've come is this Defense.gov Biography:

"On September 29, 2010, President Obama nominated Mr. Vickers to be Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, and on January 28, 2011, President Obama designated Mr. Vickers as Acting Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence. He continues to serve as ASD (SO/LIC&IC) while awaiting formal Senate confirmation as USD(I)." 1

Anyone with superior Google-fu want to accept this challenge and head out into the West Wide World? DubiousIrony yell 02:23, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Phebe Novakovic[edit]

He was married to Phebe Novakovic, the current chairman and CEO for General Dynamics. "After Phebe Novakovic married Michael Vickers in 1985, the alumnae magazine at her alma mater, Smith College, announced the nuptials. “Mike and Phebe met in the foreign service,” the entry cheerfully reported.

That is what is known in the espionage trade as a cover story. In fact, the two met while working for the Central Intelligence Agency. And Vickers wasn’t just any CIA operative. He was a former Green Beret who became the chief strategist for the agency’s secret program that armed the mujahadeen as they fought to drive the Soviet Union’s army out of Afghanistan.".
