1938/1944?[edit]

I wrote the history section of this article using two different Ukrainian-language encyclopedias. I don't speak Ukrainian, and am using mostly Google Translate to decipher it, but there's one apparent contradiction in the sources that is pretty important and is puzzling me. This source seems to be saying the mines were united into a village named "Leninske" in 1938, though I'm not sure, since there's so much heavy use of abbreviations and condensed language:

Від 1938 – смт. Від липня 1942 до лютого 1943 – під нім.-фашист. окупацією. 1944 С-ще шахти № 9 ім. Леніна та ще кілька навколиш. шахтар. с-щ об’єднали в одне і назвали Л.

Whereas this one seems to explicitly say it happened in 1944.

У 1944 році їх об’єднали в одне, якому дали назву Ленінське.

I've currently worded it in the article that it either happened in 1938 or 1944, but I think I must be misunderstanding one or both of the sources. If any editors who see this speak Ukrainian, I'd love the help. HappyWith (talk) 23:30, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

LeninskeValianivske – Due to the modern name of the settlement, since 2016. See: https://zakon.rada.gov.ua/laws/show/1351-19#Text Yuriy Kvach (talk) 05:06, 14 May 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 08:37, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Just to mention for the context that Ukraine has never controlled the settlement under the new name, and Russia which controls it uses the old name. Ymblanter (talk) 20:08, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is a relevant part of my argument which resulted in the discussion being unclosed: Yes, I think it is fine to reopen. I do not necessarily argue against the move (otherwise I would have voted oppose), but I want the move to be based on policy-based arguments and not on opinions of users. If there is no evidence of COMMONNAME at the moment, may be it should be closed as no consensus, and we can wait for the evidence. Ymblanter (talk) 08:45, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nomination. Since, as indicated in the article's lead sentence, Valianivske undeniably lies within the internationally recognized borders of Ukraine, the main title of its English Wikipedia entry should depict its Ukrainian name, rather than its Russian name. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 01:22, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
