I attempted to add citations to this article, but seem to have made quite a mess of it. I thought I knew how from the help section and practice attempts in the sandbox. Can anyone help out a bit? Aurelius89 (talk) 21:48, 15 August 2008 (UTC)MAurelius.[reply]

There is quite a bit that needs to be done with this article, and I just do not have the time right now, but if anyone else would be willing, here are a few things I see:

1. The Congressional campaign results are not sourced. In addition, it might be worthwhile to added standard charts for ease of reading.

2. I believe he held a leadership position in the state house (assistant caucus whip or something at a similar level) but I cannot seem to find it to validate.

3. The section on the 2006 election seems too detailed given the length of the article. There is far more on running for office in this article than what he actually did in office. It might make sense to shorten in and add more detail on Pappageorge’s major legislation, senate committee assignments, etc. In terms of what is covered on the election itself, one of the significant points of the election was that it was one of the most expensive in state history, which would be a significant point to include if someone can find the documentation.

4. On the note of legislation or stands on major issues, he has proposed a State Constitutional Amendment for an across the board pay cut for all state employees and wrote an article in the Detroit News explaining the proposal. He also proposed budgeting reforms, basing state projected expenditures on 97% of state expected revenues based on that fact that the state has consistently overspent by 3% for years. Again, he has written about this in newspapers. He also authored significant legislation regarding school funding and absentee voting for military members. Not all these details might be necessary for an encyclopedia article, but budgeting has been a major issue in Michigan and he seems to be at the center of many of the budget debates.

5. His predecessors/successors should be added. They should be added both in the side box and could be added in the standard bottom box that lists politicians and their predecessors/successors by district represented.

6. I will not get into the edit war on the controversy section. I do wonder if there is more documentable detail available about content. For instance, as it stands, the working is probably acceptable by the letter of the rules for NPOV in that it begins “The New York Times cited…,” but by the spirit of the rule, it seems to indicate that the comment was racist. Even assuming the worst of intent in the comment, if the city votes heavily democratic (which it does – there is no elected Republican at any level in the city and the city has not elected a Republican mayor in over fifty years), there is no justification for assuming that the comments referred to a heavy collection of Democratic voters who just incidentally happen to be African American. Again, this is not a NPOV issue by letter of law, but seems a spirit of the law question if more context is available.

7. The State Senate section, besides needing more content from his time in the Senate thus far, also needs serious documentation work.

8. Has anyone taken the time to cut and paste this article into word or some other program with a good formal grammar checker?
