Academic theory and applied learning

At the end of the day, one reason you come to MIT is for new skills and qualifications to get a job, a different job or a better job. Which is why we do all we can to ensure that when you graduate, you’re work-ready. We do this by making sure you’re both academically qualified, as well as technically competent. In other words, we teach you a balance of academic theory and applied learning so you end up with all the necessary skills to walk into a job knowing exactly what you’re doing.

There are a number of ways we make this possible. Our lecturers have huge amounts of industry experience, which means they understand what skills you’ll need in the real world. MIT works with a number of academic partners to provide you with the best expertise available. These partners include Te Wananga o Aotearoa, Southern Cross University in Australia, The University of Auckland, Unitec New Zealand and other New Zealand polytechnics. We also strive to create an environment that reflects the conditions you’ll find in successful businesses. So the places where you study can be just like the places you’ll work. We also keep in close contact with all kinds of industries to make sure that what we’re teaching is relevant and up-to-date. All in all, this approach is the reason why MIT graduates are so sought-after by employers.
