On June 23, 1074, a Zirid fleet under the command of [[Tamim ibn al-Mu'izz|Tamim ibn al-Muizz ibn Badis]] sailed to [[Nicotera]] and seized control of the city. They not only captured [[Nicotera]] but also completely destroyed it, demolishing [[Normans|Norman]] fortifications and capturing its citizens.
