Caliscelidae is a family of 'planthoppers', sap-sucking insects that belong to the the order Hemiptera, suborder Auchenorrhyncha infraorder Fulgoromorpha. They are somewhat anomalous and have often been included within the family Issidae but considered distinct in spite of not have any clear common morphological character traits that define the family. Studies of the phylogeny of the Issidae and other groups using molecular techniques supports the retention of the group as a separate family.[1][2].
