Ellis & Burnand had a sawmill at Mangapehi from 1901[3] until the late 1960s.[4]
A tramway linked the station to the coal mines at Maniaiti / Benneydale.[5] It was used for coal from the Mangapehi mine between 1936 and 1952.[6]
